Future Market Insights, the adventure tourism industry in Africa which includes Gorilla Trekking as a key travel item is tracking to reach US$ 187,4 million by 2033. 'According to the World Tourism Organization, Africa is the region with the second-fastest growth in terms of tourism after South East Asia. Tourists that are passionate about travel and adventure should partake in adventure tourism. It is intended for people who desire to enrich their lives with fresh experiences. Adventure tourism is resilient, draws high-value clients, helps local economies, and promotes environmentally friendly behaviour.' A reality that we need to leverage on. Africa has a lot to offer in terms of its unique and appealing adventure experiences. We need to up our game and tap in this niche and get as much as possible of the $450 billion. However, to gain as much from this industry we need to populate the spaces with our offering as the world out there knows little about Africa. And for those who know about Africa, the story is distorted. #RegionalIntegration #RegionalTourism #VisitZimbabwe
Africa's tourism sector is experiencing a significant transformation as it positions itself as a premier destination for adventure travel. The global adventure tourism market, valued at over $450 billion, is projected to reach $2.6 trillion by 2033, with Africa carving out a unique niche. "The rise of adventure tourism across Southern Africa represents a significant opportunity for sustainable economic growth and regional cooperation," said Natalia Rosa, project lead with the SADC Business Council Tourism Alliance. Co-founder of Outlier Journeys. We design personalized global travel experiences blending immersive adventures, understated luxury and responsible travel
It's been inspiring to witness Panama's transformation/image makeover as a sustainable adventure travel destination, appealing to an educated and curious traveler. In 2017 when I started to work with Isla Palenque and the Cayuga Collection of Sustainable Luxury Hotels, it was a big lift to get the advisor community to pay attention to Panama. Unfortunately the country's reputation at that time seemed to mostly attract the mega cruise crowd, or stopovers in Panama City that included shopping, the Canal and maybe a day of fishing. A tourism equation that leads to a high volume of travelers but with a very concentrated and low per person spend, very little of which remains in the country. Obviously Panama always had more to offer; incredible biodiversity, cultural diversity unrivaled by any other Central American nation, and a geography that played a central role in our shared human history. Panama shaped how the Americas were colonized, it shaped globalization and ultimately the what happens in Panama impacts how we all exist today. But that story wasn't being told until a number of factors aligned, including thoughtful national investment in tourism, communities, conservation, a diversification of accommodations, and storytelling, spearheaded by Iván Eskildsen Alfaro. If you haven't yet experienced Panama, go.
As we look to the future of tourism, Panama serves as a reminder that with dedication, creativity, and collaboration, destinations can transform their tourism models into a strategy that preserves their unique cultural identities and natural treasures.
