What does the Olympic Flame represent for you? 🔥
Hafida REBIHA, one of our 300 Sanofi Torchbearers, was joined by her husband and two children when she carried the Flame for the Paris 2024 Olympic Torch Relay.
For her, the Flame represents the everyday, unsung hero that sometimes goes unnoticed.
It was the perfect opportunity for Hafida, to honor her brother, a hero to her and so many others.

Neeraj Chopra, India’s star javelin thrower and Olympic gold medalist, follows a highly disciplined and intense training regimen to maintain his elite level of performance. His regimen is designed to optimize his strength, speed, flexibility, and technique, which are crucial for success in javelin throwing. Here’s an overview of his regimen:
1. Strength Training:
Weightlifting: Neeraj incorporates heavy weightlifting exercises like squats, deadlifts, and bench presses to build explosive strength. These exercises help in developing the power needed to generate speed and force during the javelin throw.
2. Throwing Practice:
• Javelin Technique: Neeraj spends significant time perfecting his throwing technique. This involves practicing the run-up, grip, and release of the javelin. He often breaks down the motion into parts to fine-tune each aspect.
3. Conditioning and Cardiovascular Fitness:
• Running Drills: Sprinting and interval training help in building the speed and stamina required for the explosive final phase of the throw.
• Endurance Training: Longer runs or cycling are part of his regimen to ensure overall cardiovascular health and stamina.
4. Flexibility and Mobility:
• Stretching: Flexibility is crucial to prevent injuries and to execute the throw with full range of motion. Neeraj follows a daily stretching routine targeting the shoulders, back, hips, and legs.
• Yoga: Yoga is often part of his regimen to improve flexibility, mental focus, and breathing control.
5. Diet and Nutrition:
• Balanced Diet: Neeraj follows a strict diet plan rich in proteins, complex carbohydrates, and healthy fats to support muscle growth and recovery.
• Hydration: Staying hydrated is critical, especially during intense training sessions.
6. Recovery and Injury Prevention:
• Physiotherapy: Regular physiotherapy sessions are essential for Neeraj to manage any niggles and to recover from the intense physical demands of his training.
• Ice Baths and Massages: These help reduce muscle soreness and prevent injuries by improving circulation and reducing inflammation.
7. Mental Training:
• Focus and Visualization: Neeraj places a strong emphasis on mental preparation. He practices visualization techniques to mentally rehearse his throws and to maintain focus during competitions.
• Meditation and Relaxation: To handle the pressure of high-stakes events, Neeraj practices meditation and relaxation techniques to stay calm and composed.
8. Sleep and Rest:
Adequate Sleep: Neeraj ensures he gets enough rest, typically 8 hours of sleep, which is crucial for recovery and performance.
9. Periodization:
Phased Training: His training is periodized into different phases, including off-season, pre-competition, and competition phases. Each phase has a specific focus, such as building base strength, refining technique, or peaking for competitions.
This rigorous and comprehensive regimen has been key to Neeraj Chopra’s success in the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Tomorrow is the start of the Paris Olympic Games! The United Kingdom is the only nation that has been represented at every modern Olympic Games and Team GB have won a gold medal at every summer Olympics since 1896! The modern Olympic Games were inspired by the ancient Olympic Games, which were held in Olympia, Greece, from the 8th century BC to the 4th century AD. The modern Games were revived in the late 19th century by Baron Pierre de Coubertin and have been held every four years since 1896, with the exception of interruptions due to World War I and World War II.
