Most transition programs for troops exiting service are overly focused on education, & there is limited evidence such federally funded initiatives are working, according to a new report funded by the Endowments. “Although further education is important for many veterans, most enter the civilian workforce directly & might benefit from more employment-focused support.” Read more about the startling findings in Military Times: RAND; Institute for Veterans and Military Families - IVMF; Clearinghouse for Military Family Readiness #VeteransWork

Attention #army service members, this is important information that Joshua Atkinson has been talking about for month now. The Army is seeking to make cuts to your Credentialing Assistance (CA) program. From the article: 📣 📣 “What we are looking at is rather than having soldiers be able to pursue an unlimited number of credentials every year in perpetuity, we may look at saying that soldiers could do one certification a year. Maybe have sort of a cap on the number of certifications they can get over the duration of their time in the Army — really just to try to manage the costs of the program a little bit better. But that’s sort of how we’re thinking right now. And those kinds of guardrails are very similar to what our sister services have done in the Air Force and the Navy,” said Wormuth. Anybody else have additional information you can share? #militarytransition #transitioningmilitary #certifications #training #preveteran

The antiquated liberal arts higher education model is often not a good fit for military & veteran students. One reason: These students are frequently not welcomed by administrators, professors, and fellow students at “elite” colleges. Career colleges, by contrast, offer flexible schedules, career-applicable coursework, and tailored programming, which for many students make them a better option. While the Department of Education and some aligned lawmakers try to paint career colleges as greedy predators eager to pounce on unsuspecting veterans—in actuality, many veteran students choose these schools because they are a better fit for their needs and goals.
