Next week, Dr. Johnna Nynas, an OB-GYN at Sanford Bemidji, will be speaking on a panel at the American Hospital Association Leadership Summit. Dr. Nynas will be discussing how Sanford Health is integrating digital solutions to extend care beyond our walls and reduce barriers to a healthy pregnancy. "The quality and level of care patients receive should not be determined by their zip code," says Nynas. "We know that when patients engage in the recommended prenatal and postpartum care, we see better maternal and neonatal health outcomes. That's why we are bringing care to women rather than expecting women to come to us." Such an important conversation; while our focus on inpatient L&D for maternal safety may be slowly gaining attention, the real topic is what are we doing postpartum to improve our maternal mortality and morbidity rates? THIS is the future of maternal health care.
Day 1 at the Future of Maternal Care Summit closed with a vital topic - Increasing the Value and Convenience of Postpartum Visits. Over half of deaths in pregnancy take place 7-30 days postpartum and such a discussion like this it is integral to reduce maternal mortality. Moderated by Dawn Steiner, MD, MS-HQS, FACOG Steiner, and featuring esteemed panellists Meghan Doyle, Talia Borgo CNM, WHNP, RN, Jin Lee, Ph.D, Linda Genen, MD, MPH and Leslie Saltzman there were some incredibly enlightening takeaways 💡: ⏱️ Every patients combination of needs is different, wether that is physical rehab, mental healthcare etc. We need to think how we take the burden off the patient and create a knowledgeable and specialized team AND this must start prenatally to enable time to build relationships. 💲Rethinking and Refunding Postnatal Care. There is often a mismatch between what clinical community wants to tick of and what the birthing person needs, we need reimbursement models that support lengthening these visits, encouraging continuity of care and prioritizing mental healthcare. 🤲 Postpartum Group Support can be an excellent strategy to improve attendance in postpartum visits, and can help build a sense of a community, encouraging the mother to attend. #postpartumcare #maternalcare #fomc2024

Transforming Parental Support and Life Integration for Parents, Managers, and Employers | Community Leader | Coach & Educator | Founder, The Parents Table
Yes, everything about this. Mothers need more care than doctor's appointments. Mother's need more attention post-birth and the conversations and support need to start pre-birth. Mothers deserve more than the lactation services offered at some pediatricians offices and more than the 6 week doc appt and the perinatal mental health assessment. More than calling it the 'baby blues' which makes it sound like it's minimal at best. Mothers deserve more... More care, conversations and support around topics like paternal care, mental health disorders and when they can show and what can trigger them, lactation support and lactation disorders, rage, anxiety, changes in priorities, guilt, shame, self-trust, changes in career, birth trauma, grief in parenthood and identity shifts, building your 'village', post-birth bleeding, changes in desire to be employed, how to advocate for yourself, and more. 🌟💡Postpartum/Postnatal Group Support: COMING SOON! (Virtually) 📅 Check out my upcoming Prenatal Group Support for expecting mothers with a career because post-birth and post-leave return care starts pre-birth and pre-leave. Join today, we start February 19th! https://rb.gy/h7c03d

In Massachusetts, excessive out-of-pocket health care costs can put essential prenatal, labor and delivery, postpartum, and miscarriage management care out of reach to those who need it. This is why the Medical Society is proud to support An Act Ensuring Access to Full Spectrum Pregnancy Care, which would address these climbing costs by requiring insurers to cover the full spectrum of pregnancy care – from prenatal to delivery to postpartum – with no financial burden on patients. https://ow.ly/KyGh50QzoFm https://ow.ly/VFnq50QzoFl

April is c-section awareness month. This is a world wide campaign that educates society more especially women about the importance & the pros and cons of having surgical birth. A C-section is a life saving procedure but can be problematic if done unnecessarily. It has become very popular that healthy pregnant women with low risk pregnancy opt for C-section vs vaginal birth. There so many costs involved when doing surgical birth, from the duration in hospital as part of your recovery, the anaesthetist ( who hardly charge medical aid rates), paediatrician and Gynecologist. All these mentioned are specialists, therefore, being on the correct Medical aid and the correct option is very vital to help cover the costs. Let Cornerstone Healthcare Consulting Services & Cornerstone Financial Services Group guide you on your journey.
