In response to the Jan. 22 floods, we launched the San Diego Flood Response Fund to rapidly deploy flexible resources into the community and support organizations responding to the unprecedented flooding. Some of the most acute flooding and damage occurred in communities in National City, Spring Valley and southeastern San Diego, including Mountain View, Southcrest, Logan Heights and Encanto, leaving neighbors and residents without livable homes, clothing, food or transportation. 100% of donations received for the San Diego Flood Response Fund went towards nonprofits helping San Diegans impacted by the flood. This #HurricanePreparedness Week, let's ensure resources for disaster response are available when Texas needs them most. Monetary donations are the most effective way to support recovery. Unlike in-kind goods, which can take time to sort and distribute, cash allows relief organizations to quickly purchase exactly what's needed – from emergency shelter supplies to food and clean water. Here's why cash is king: 👑Flexibility: Funds can be used for the most pressing needs after a storm, whether it's shelter, food, or rebuilding efforts. 👑Logistics: Cash eliminates the challenge of storing and transporting in-kind goods, allowing for quicker response and minimizing waste. 👑Efficiency: Donating now ensures resources are readily available when disaster strikes, leading to quicker aid deployment. Your contribution to the Rebuild Texas Fund at https://lnkd.in/gBEjJ3ht empowers local organizations to provide critical support during a crisis. Donate today to build a more resilient Texas! #HurricanePrep #HurricaneStrong #RebuildTexas #DisasterResilience #DisasterPreparedness

We are thinking of everyone who was impacted by the most recent round of heavy rain and flooding on Tuesday and Wednesday. Our Community Connections team jumped in to make lunch for the front line folks who are on the ground in St. Johnsbury, and beyond. They made wraps with vegetables from home gardens, the Hazen Greenhouse, Just Cut, Pete’s Greens and more. We can’t do it all, but everyone can do a little, and each bit makes a difference. Here are ways to jump in: Give your time: Houses still need to be mucked across the NEK, and people still need resources. To help with mucking, sign up here: https://buff.ly/3SpX5BL Give your dollars: Locally Social Gives, Inc. a nonprofit based in St. Johnsbury that has worked incredibly quickly to stand up a new flood relief fund to provide grants to NEK residents. This fund will provide flexible, quick funding (up to $1,500) for residents in need of support following last week's flood. https://lnkd.in/dC-EcQun You can also donate directly to CAE www.caevt.org/donate to support our work in all aspects of the local food system, including flood recovery and the Vermont Farm Fund https://lnkd.in/eCPUfm4E to support zero percent interest emergency loans to farmers impacted by disasters. The future we imagine can only exist if we build it together.

IMPORTANT UPDATE: the URL to the Fund website has changed. Visit https://lnkd.in/gfFH-y_a to donate and to learn more. The Greater Houston Disaster Alliance has established the Severe Weather and Derecho Recovery Fund to support individuals and families affected by the severe storms, derecho winds, tornadoes, and flooding events that occurred between April 26 and May 17, 2024. On May 18, 2024, President Joe Biden approved a Major Disaster Declaration for these combined events impacting multiple counties, including Harris and Montgomery counties, making federal assistance available to support local recovery efforts. The Fund will complement these efforts by providing funds to local nonprofits to provide emergency financial assistance, home repair, and assistance accessing resources services. The Severe Weather and Derecho Recovery Fund will serve uninsured and underinsured low-to-moderate income families (ALICE population) in the affected counties of Harris, Montgomery, and Waller, focusing on disproportionately impacted zip codes and vulnerable populations. Before you head into the long weekend, PLEASE GIVE to the Derecho Recovery Fund to support our neighbors recover: https://lnkd.in/gUkvdz2Z More than a million of us were recently impacted by power outages caused by rain, flooding, straight-line (derecho) winds, and tornadoes between April 26 - May 17. The long-lasting and material impact of this disaster is narrow, but deep. As of May 22, 2024, the Texas Department of Emergency Management iSTAT damage assessment indicates that there have been 836 validated homes impacted by this disaster, of which 336 were major/destroyed, 244 minor and 255 affected across Harris, Montgomery, Waller, Counties. In addition, United Way of Greater Houston's 2-1-1 call center has received 9,392 calls from April 26 - May 21, with food pantries/feeding centers, shelters, FEMA assistance, and disaster related cash grants as the primary services requested. The Connective Needs Assessment survey has received 656 reports of need related to the disaster, with reports of 318 homes damaged and primary needs for food and water, utilities, and financial assistance. In addition, 59,609 FEMA registrations have been validated for Harris County alone. Emergency management officials report that the numbers are rising daily and have not yet plateaued. We know so many families live on the financial edge in Houston. The Derecho Fund will support disaster recovery for uninsured or underinsured low-to-moderate income families in the City of Houston and Harris, Montgomery, and Waller Counties, focused on disproportionately impacted zip codes and vulnerable populations. The Fund will complement efforts by FEMA, SBA and others by providing funds to local nonprofits to provide emergency financial assistance, home repair, and resource navigation services to support impacted families access public and private resources available to support recovery. This #TriviaTuesday we're learning about Midwest Food Bank 🌽 Midwest Food Bank volunteers are more than hands and feet; they are fundamental to the success of the organization. They are structured to provide service opportunities and operate through the work of volunteers; they collect, sort, pack, and distribute food and disaster relief donations, a reminder every day that this mission could not be achieved without them. In 2022, more than 30,000 volunteers put in service hours to the equivalent of over 175 full-time employees! The service of these dedicated volunteers allows Midwest Food Bank to operate efficiently while keeping administrative costs low. They gain the unique perspective that worldwide hunger is prevalent, and their efforts can make a difference. In 2005, Midwest Food Bank saw first-hand that they could deliver hope and support to the victims of Hurricane Katrina. They decided to increase their capacity and work toward improving their disaster support coverage. This allowed them to serve more people more effectively! They also have a fleet of trucks and volunteer drivers standing ready. Food donations are picked up from across the country, delivered to their facilities, and distributed to those in need. How many hours of service did Midwest Food Bank's volunteers put in in 2022? A) 200,000 B) 250,000 C) 300,000 D) 350,000 See more about their missions and values here: https://lnkd.in/dvAj_hcs
