Business Development Manager at Timberlab

I could look at these 80 foot long curved #glulam beams at the Port of Portland International Airport all day. 2024 cannot come fast enough so thousands of passengers a day will get to experience this beautiful new roof! This project has an amazing story for so many reasons. From #sustainableforestry to rural economic development, you can read about this incredible project redefining travel at #PDXNext at https://pdxnext.com/ and more about Timberlab's role here: https://lnkd.in/gMYhyYWC

Any credit to the designer? Who’s the architect who dreamed it up?

Why isn’t New Zealand embracing the use of such wood supporting beams instead of importing incredibly over priced steel? Let’s hear from National about supporting this in their policy statements!

What a pity the constant propaganda by fools has led people to believe that beautiful wood construction needs to be replaced by much more environmental rubbish materials. Systems thinking needs to be taught in schools. How much environmental damage is done by aluminium, steel, concrete etc., than beautiful wood? Most forest areas in Australia are now locked into badly managed fire bombs as resources to manage our wonderful forests have been decimated by sadly misguided folk.

Ok… that’s cool…

Construction using wood is a sensitive and constantly evolving process, the purest form of which can only be achieved by using timber grown for that purpose without destroying the ecosystems of the old forests. I very much hope that such wood will be used.

Great L00king Glulams…. Too bad they were placed in the middle of a very dysfunctional city. As they proudly note ….. “PORTLAND IS WIERD”

The other day I bought a burger and paid with a credit card. The person behind the counter said "Awesome!". I said, "No, Efficient!" But this roof is truly "Awesome!" I would also add "Inspiring" and a "Triumph". Compare it to the I-beam. Imagine if the architect decided just to run steel across the void, even if they used the same shape somehow, it would be a dark and oppressive space. This is uplifting. Excuse the pun. 😊
