I always cringe when I see a video of myself, but after watching a few times, it takes me back to how I felt back in December when I was in Nashville for Barge Design Solutions Corporate Orientation. We had our Annual Meeting in Nashville this past weekend, where the entire Barge team (and our families) were invited for a weekend at Opryland! The weekend only got me more excited for what's to come. Main takeaways: 1. Ownership: While Barge is privately held, our stock has out-performed most companies on the NYSE over the past 3 years and growth projections don't seem to be slowing down anytime soon. The ability to have ownership in the company you work for brings on a whole new level of excitement and authenticity to the day to day work. 2. Legacy: Barge's record of getting "selected when it matters the most" has led to an unbelievable portfolio of high profile projects around the Southeast. We are excited to continue that legacy here in South Carolina. 3. Impact: The work we do, whether it be for the private sector, state and local sector, or the federal government, has made a lasting impact on businesses, communities, patients, and our military. We are people taking care of people.

🚨Long post alert🚨 I Had a "cleaning" adventure today tackling the outside windows of our branch – emphasis on the quotes around "cleaning"! 😂 Let's say if window cleaning were an Olympic sport, I'd be competing for the participation medal. Our building is like a skyscraper. The property management periodically hires a team to repel down the side of the building with ropes, and the regular cleaning crew doesn't dare venture into these heights. 🏢 . So, armed with a squeegee and a determination to conquer the dust, I took on the challenge. ( No, it didn't even cross my mind to repel the side of the building; I had a long broom handle. 😂) The result? Let's say my artistic interpretation of large window cleaning may not make it to my resume anytime soon. While washing and contemplating life, a few thoughts crossed my soapy mind: 1. Remember that golden rule to treat the maintenance person just like you would the CEO? Well, I respect them even more now – there's clearly a technique involved that I missed in the memo! 2. I insisted on doing the task myself because leadership means leading by example, even if it involves a slightly embarrassing attempt at window cleaning. 💪 My team needed to see that no task is beneath their fearless leader! 3. In the spirit of going beyond the job description, my squeegee escapade reminded me that we're not just employees but contributors to something bigger. Let's all be superheroes in our way! 4. Sure, I might not have aced the window cleaning challenge, but the important thing is I tried. Life's full of lessons; sometimes, they involve Windex and a squeegee. 🤷♂️ Here's to embracing every experience, no matter how underqualified you may be! I’ve missed working near the water. It’s nice to walk and take in the relative peace (whilst posting on LinkedIn and almost tripping!! 😂). So many memories here at Docklands - particularly my time working in a team called Property, Procurement & Environmental Operations (those who were there know this was indeed our BUs name - and my title was Manager of Environmental Communications and Engagement… try saying all that super fast!). Lots of friends, many life long ones. Lots of important mentors for me, Amy Conrad , Sudhir Rao , Nicola Schroder , Alison Read (who encouraged me to become a mentor for the first time!), Belynda Oliver ,Chris De La Rue , Cameron Myrtle , Simon Franklin , Marcus Carli , Katie M. , Brendan Keenan, Gillian Westwood - gosh… I could go on for days! I remember setting 3yr delivery strategies, iterating within that and often delivering something better than what we predicted - the strategy was simply a guide rail that we reported against and updated. We did that twice! 🤩 I’ve gone on to have so many amazing roles, in many different places - and like a Pokémon master, I have collected all the kind, courageous, compassionate and individually skilled humans I’ve had the honour to work with. But that time in PP&EO was like a summer’s afternoon with a cold drink in hand - hot (challenging, sometimes so much ya broke a sweat!) and refreshing (supported, connected, together, safe). This week, we would like to introduce Dustin Terral. Dustin is a seasoned professional in the construction industry with a remarkable 29 years of experience, including 6 years specializing in commercial roofing. Originally from Waco, Texas, Dustin recently relocated to Durant, Oklahoma, where he has been making his mark since December. As a travel superintendent at O'Hara's Son Roofing Company (OSR), Dustin manages complex projects with expertise and dedication. Outside of work, he enjoys smoking brisket and ribs, playing guitar, and singing in dance halls. When he’s not on the job, you can find him catching up on some well-deserved sleep! We checked in with Dustin to ask a few questions about his experience on the road: 1. What’s the most unexpected thing you’ve found on a roof? A .357 revolver! 2. Describe a time when your problem-solving skills saved the day on a construction site. During the new construction, I saw that a high voltage transmission line had been recently installed directly above the site where the building was planned. 3. If you had to motivate a team of tired and stressed workers, what would you do? Get them a fruit basket. Who doesn’t like fruit? 4. What’s your approach to ensuring safety standards are met on every project you oversee? I find it’s best when observing safety to watch from a distance and blend in to your surroundings. Also, lead by example, of course. 5. What’s the most memorable roofing site you’ve worked on and why? I installed a copper dome on a 130-year-old chapel at Ft. Sam Houston. 6. If you could magically speed up one part of the roofing process, what would it be and why? Magically eliminate the need for requests for information (RFIs), cause they disrupt the flow of a job. 7. If you had to choose a historical figure to oversee a commercial roofing project with you, who would it be and why? I'm no fan of firefighter awards. Actually I hate them, as firefighting can only be successful as a team. The best recognition in firefighting comes by getting home safe, or by giving firefighters a needed piece of equipment. Singling out individuals among thousands does no good to improve the service. The efforts that go into awards by leaders should be spent on building their culture and teamwork, value-added activities such as training, safety and quality. As a solution, I'd recommend awards for FireSmart communities which recognize small to large groups who have made their communities safer - think FireSmart in Bloom. Another for innovators who have created something to make FireSmart or firefighting tasks more efficient. And team safety/quality awards (multiple) for firefighter crews who have demonstrated safety combined with quality. Those will highlight improvements others can be inspired to do themselves as teams or communities. That's how you fight fires.
