Practicing helps find the gaps ahead of the event.
FEMA Region 10 Administrator Willie Nunn and Alaska Division of Homeland Security & Emergency Management Director Bryan Fisher share their thoughts about this week’s Alaska Rehearsal of Concept. State and federal agencies, non-profits, and the private sector took part in the three-day exercise held at the Dena'ina Center in Anchorage. With a focus on the last tactical mile in the aftermath of an earthquake, conversations revolved on how to move critical life saving resources to specific locations in communities for survivors to access.

Almost one year ago, on February 6, 2023, devastating #earthquakes shook parts of #Türkiye and #Syria, claiming the lives of nearly 60,000 people in total and leaving countless others severely injured. We immediately mobilized an emergency relief team and, through joint efforts with our partner organizations, provided crucial medical care and support to those affected. Our efforts extended beyond medical assistance and included the distribution of essential resources such as water, food, diesel, tents and aid packages. The journey to recovery has been long and for many it remains ongoing, even to this day. As we approach the one-year mark of this tragic event, we stand unwaveringly by the side of those still grappling with its aftermath. Stay tuned for updates on our aid efforts in Türkiye and Syria, as we reflect on the progress made, the challenges faced, and our ongoing commitment to supporting the affected communities. Writer | Public Speaker | Believer in the Power of Partnerships to Create Lasting Change | Former Biden-Harris Administration Senior Official
“The limitations on federal assistance have frustrated survivors and delayed recovery for far too long. The Biden-Harris Administration was determined to remedy this situation and help reach more people -- especially in communities disproportionately impacted by disasters.” - FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell Please register for this webinar to learn more about the effort to reform FEMA Individual Assistance: https://lnkd.in/e7aWfk6U FEMA has been collecting feedback for decades from disaster survivors, communities and stakeholders like National Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster, United Way, NAACP, Operation HOPE, The Salvation Army - Emergency Disaster Services - USA, Institute for Diversity and Inclusion in Emergency Management , Next Leadership Development, The Undivide Project and so many more partners, including from public comments the agency solicited in 2021, on how to specifically improve the Individual Assistance program. State partners and members of Congress have echoed these concerns and pressed for simpler, more straightforward programs to assist individuals across the country as they recover. Those shared experiences serve as the foundation of FEMA’s updates. #emergencymanagement #disasterresponse #disasterrecovery #financialresilience #financialpreparedness #disaster #emergencypreparedness

We are almost two years into the war in Ukraine, and the situation on the ground for civilians is getting worse... In the past few weeks, Russian attacks have increased significantly, including what CNN called "the heaviest night of missile strikes since the war began." A recent air strike on Kyiv killed 33 civilians while destroying 100 homes and dozens of apartment buildings. I never imagined Mercy Chefs would still be on the ground in Ukraine nearly two years after the fighting began. But we are here, and thousands of families caught in the crossfire of this war rely on Mercy Chefs for meals to help them make it through another day. We can't walk away from these folks who have already suffered so much. As I've been sharing with you this week, our main transport truck that delivers hot meals to families living near the frontlines urgently needs repairs. In all, we need about $25,000 above and beyond our normal Ukraine support to make sure our team is fully operational. I really want to meet this need by the end of the weekend Would you prayerfully consider making a one-time gift of $50 or even $100 so we can equip our team and keep this lifeline of hot meals and hope going? Go here to make your special Ukraine relief gift: It's snowing across much of Ukraine. Temperatures will be below freezing for the next several days. And the attacks are increasing. Quite frankly, we never asked for this mission. But we are here. Mercy Chefs has provided millions of meals. Our kitchen is feeding families on the frontlines of this war. We can't stop. But we need YOUR help! MercyChefs.com is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to providing hot meals to victims and volunteers in disaster and other desperate situations. Our simple mission to "just go feed people" is only possible through the generous support of friends like you. Do not reply to this email. The inbox is no monitored. For questions, go here. When we talk about #familyreadiness for #militaryfamilies, it’s important to include more than #qualityoflife conversations, we must also include contingency plans for emergencies and crises. According to K.C. Erredge, “military families should always be ready for crisis and know how to engage officially should an emergency arise.” As we prepare for another possible hurricane landfall along the Gulf Coast that might impact #militaryfamilies, K.C.’s tips are a great review for how family readiness plays out in an everyday crisis. You can read her recommendations and more expert insights in Air & Space Forces Association’s newest publication, ENGAGE. https://lnkd.in/e29qtr8u
