A New Era Beyond the HITECH Act: Empowering Patients with MyRxWallet While the HITECH Act of 2009 laid the groundwork for standardizing electronic health records (EHR), it’s time to move beyond its limitations. At MyRxWallet, we’re leading a revolution in healthcare technology that prioritizes patient autonomy and data security. Unlike traditional systems that lock patients into predefined formats, MyRxWallet gives patients full control over their medical records. Our technology empowers patients with explicit directives to their providers: medical information is never to be disclosed or discussed without written consent. Upon completing a diagnosis and treatment plan, any information entered into the EHR by the provider is removed or blacked out after the necessary reimbursement processes are completed. Furthermore, upon the completion of the patient’s medical visit, the provider must directly supply the patient with their medical information into the patient’s EHR. Failure to comply with this requirement, as prescribed by federal legislation such as the 21st Century Cures Act, will result in a notice of noncompliance issued to the provider within the timeframe allowed by law. This level of control fundamentally challenges the status quo established by legacy systems like Epic. As MyRxWallet enters the arena, the days of proprietary data silos and limited patient access are numbered. Too often in healthcare, we ask that resilient individuals keep systems afloat instead of building resilient systems. We just completed the six-month mark of transforming the Juravinski Hospital from a traditional internal medicine clinical teaching unit (CTU) to a hospitalist model of care. What started as a project to improve resident workloads/safety (by concentrating residents at Hamilton General and St. Josephs Healthcare Hamilton) has helped us build a more resilient care model. Like most Ontario hospitals, we have seen an increase in internal medicine consults and admissions. In our case, that increase has been close to 20%. During December, we saw record-breaking numbers of patients admitted to Juravinski Hospital, higher than our COVID surges. The hospitalist model has given us flexibility, and our recruitment has allowed us to scale and increase physician coverage to match patient numbers. We would not have been able to manage these volumes with our previous CTU model. 💡 Placing a nasogastric tube involves risks. As healthcare providers, we should always strive for accurate placement. Our study examined the clinical effectiveness of the corrected nose-earlobe-xiphoid distance formula (CoNEX) for determining the internal length of nasogastric tubes in adults. Healthcare System Set To Break Ground on New Hospital in Suburban San Antonio University Health of San Antonio is set to commence construction on a new five-story, 589,743-square-foot hospital in Selma, Texas, starting March 17, with completion targeted for September 17, 2026. Named University Health Retama Hospital, the project, estimated at $480 million—lower than an initial $600 million projection—marks a significant expansion for the healthcare provider. The hospital aims to open in late 2026 or early 2027, offering comprehensive services including a 24/7 emergency department, labor and delivery, radiology, pharmacy, neonatal intensive care, and more, within a facility that initially provides 166 beds, with potential expansion to 286. Strategically located along the Austin-San Antonio corridor, this development underscores the ongoing economic impact of the healthcare industry in the region, which contributes over $44 billion annually. University Health, distinct from the similarly named entity involved with Cano Health, underscores its commitment to enhancing medical infrastructure and services in Bexar County and its surrounding area.
