As someone in sales, I believe that is just super unprofessional to try confusion strategies to get calls. 😕 There is this conference, where their sales team, as part of their prospection strategy, they have this hook, “Hey, you've been shortlisted for this Award", let's meet. 😲 Later you take the call, but if you want to “win” the award, you have to pay. 🙄 . Look, I'm not against paying for sponsorships, partnerships, speaking sessions, etc. Nevertheless, at least be clear with your intentions when prospecting. It is very disappointing for individuals, that do not know these tricks, they go to these meetings so happy because they have been awarded, but during the meeting, they learn that they need money to “earn the award”. This does not make sense to me, is a very low approach! That's why Community Building is getting more important every day, people are just exhausted of being tricked all the time. A day in the life of a Sales Geek. There’s rarely a dull moment being a Sales Geek. Everyday brings new challenges with a wide range of activities that keep you buzzing from place to place. Here was yesterday’s schedule which is a good example of a day in the life. 8:30: Coffee with a new local business leader. 10:00: Meeting with a client on a Your Sales Director project. 12:00 Networking meeting at a local chamber of commerce. 1:30: Ribbon cutting for new business plus networking. 2:45: After action report chat with the board of a local group I’m volunteering on. 6:00 Board meeting for one of the local chambers of commerce I’m involved in. While often exhausting every day provides a sense of accomplishment and fulfillment. You’ll also notice that through all the hard work there is still time to volunteer in the local community supporting the issues you feel most strongly about. Join and Don't Attend? - Not a good sales strategies. If you are joining a professional association, Chamber of Commerce or business group thinking membership will gain you business. let me share something with you. Joining is not going to help unless you show up, become active and participate in the association. Save your dues and membership money for a better investment. If you joined to gain contacts for you and your business. how do you expect that to happen if no one knows you. You will simply be a name on a list - not necessarily someone, anyone wants to do business with. As a Board member and former Chair of a Chamber of Commerce I have seen so many companies just wasting their money. I guess some just feel better knowing they joined something. Even just showing up would be a good beginning.

What truly sets you apart from your competition? I have asked myself that question many times over the past two decades. Is there actually anything that is unique that I can offer or my company can offer in terms of a product, a service anything that completely sets us apart from our competition. Going back to my days in finance, I liked to think that I set myself apart in the service that I offered my clients. I made it a recurring practice to speak with each and every client I had at a minimum of every month. Many times, it was simply to check in with them, see how they were doing, ask how their family was doing and to truly and completely understand any challenges, issues, adversity that they were facing. I wanted them to understand that while I was offering them business services, at a core level I absolutely cared about them and wanted to help them in any possible way that I could. There was many a call that we never in any capacity talked about any business product, no stock tip, no portfolio review, it was simply a call to ask in a meaningful way, how are you really doing today. To this day, whenever I chat with any of those past clients, they often say to me, that they have never had that level of service or conversation before or since with their advisor. I have actively tried to maintain that type of communication to this day in every single element of my business operations. As our great former President Theodore Roosevelt once said, "People don't care how much you know until they know how much you care." What truly sets any of us apart in business? There are very few businesses that exist that are unique in their offerings. There is competition everywhere. How we choose to function, operate, communicate in our day to day goes a long way in earning and retaining business. I want to earn business, and most importantly maintain those relationships and partnerships over a very long period of time by proving I am doing everything possible to help my clients shine, grow their brand, and help them earn their own customers repeat business for years to come. Serious Stuff I recently applied to the Scottish Children’s Lottery for funding for a sales program. Not a work programme- a Sales Program It will concentrate on building connections and ultimately sales - because let’s face it - if you can sell - you can get a job in most areas of employment And of course, it will be centred round the selling of my Kindness Range! They will be taught valuable skills in business operations, selling to the public, B2B Sales and cold calling. I want their input on things such as how the labels should look, social media and events. I want them to feel valued, respected and completely invested in “their business” Traditional work experience programs aren’t working, certainly for the majority and I have learnt this through the numerous young folk that have been sent to Juniors for work experience Obviously not all will find selling is their thing which is why I am opening up the program to cooperate companies out there - that want to give opportunities to ensure young people thrive Over the next few weeks, I will be name dropping ( how very un Scottish of me!) the big companies that have already signed up ( and I am sure from my previous posts - you will have an idea!) No promises of employment are offered - but chances are I am sure if your organisation considers themselves as an organisation that supports “social impact” - then you will want to support and you never know who is going to come through the programme- it could be that their talent - that your business looking for! #glasgow #scotland #lanarkshire
