According to Feeding America and the USDA, 13 million children experienced hunger in 2022. PV Power Packs supplies children in my local school district who are food insecure with weekend bags. These weekend bags include two breakfasts, two lunches, two snacks, and two fruits. They also have a few opportunities throughout the summer to supply students with food. August is my birthday month! To celebrate this happy occasion, I am partnering with PV Power Packs. I donate to this initiative not only because it is the right thing to do, but they helped my family when we were in a tight spot. Shortly after we bought our house and moved to the area, my husband was laid off. We were in this between space: did not make enough to make ends meet, yet made too much to qualify for certain aid programs. PV Power Packs helped make sure my child was fed when I wasn't sure where the next meal was coming from. Luckily, we no longer need their services, and I love giving back. Research local food initiatives and food pantries, and give to them. Because the best present for me is one less kid going to bed hungry.

In honor of Women’s History Month, the Rotary Club of Redwood City is tackling a modern-day women’s issue—Menstrual Equity. Across the United States, millions of people suffer the consequences of not being able to afford period products. This includes lost income and loss of time spent in the classroom. Menstrual Hygiene is a human right, not a privilege. The Rotary donation drive will give all products to Redwood City Public Library’s Teen Center and Project READ for distribution to the community. Consider making a donation through the Amazon wishlist. A few facts to consider (State of the Period 2021): *More than 4 in 5 students in the U.S. have either missed class time or know someone who has missed class time because they did not have access to period products *Lower-income students and students of color, particularly Latinx students) are more impacted by lack of access than white and middle-income students *23% of Latinx students have had to choose between buying period products and food/clothing *Poor menstrual hygiene promotes negative health outcome, including urinary tract infections. Every year, we help provide Holiday Miracles to the people on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota. We need your help. This year has been more challenging than others to get people to donate and contribute. Here are some stats about Pine Ridge: - The average life expectancy on Pine Ridge is 66.81 years, the lowest in the United States.  - There are 3,143 counties in the United States. Oglala Lakota County, contained entirely within the boundaries of the Pine Ridge Reservation, has the country's lowest per capita income ($8,768), and ranks as the "poorest" county in the nation. - A 2020 study found that Oglala Lakota County ranked last for health outcomes (length of life and quality of life) and health factors (behaviors, clinical care, social and economic factors, and physical environment) in South Dakota. Those facts are grim, but they don't capture the incredible vibrant culture, talented artists, hopeful young people, and the many individuals and organizations committed to building a better today and tomorrow across the reservation. This will ensure that the funds raised go towards a worthy cause and are used effectively. Consider partnering with local businesses or community groups to help organize and promote the fundraiser. This can help increase the reach and impact of your efforts. Think creatively about the type of fundraiser you want to organize. Some ideas include a bake sale, a charity auction, a benefit concert, or a community walk/run. Choose an option that aligns with your interests and the resources available in your community. Promote the fundraiser through social media, flyers, and other local advertising channels. Make sure to clearly communicate the purpose of the fundraiser and the impact that donations will have on the local homeless population. Set a fundraising goal and track progress towards that goal throughout the duration of the fundraiser. This can help motivate donors and volunteers to continue supporting the cause. By organizing a fundraiser for the homeless during the winter season, you can make a meaningful impact on the lives of those in need in your local community.
