So here is my attempt to answer this question that was sent to me. I have a question - how do you get your BOARD to be more in tune with your Ex Dir. As a Staff person, I don't see where the ED is held accountable to the Board in his timeline, projects, etc. And as a Staff person, I feel like I am being made to be the scapegoat. Because the ED makes sure that the Board never comes in contact with me. My position is Donor Devel / Accounting. ED says, or I will relay all the information.

Hey Executive Directors! Pick. Up. The. Phone. And talk to your board members as you would the colleagues, volunteers and supporters that love you! I think we don't say or talk about the things that are on our mind, and they bubble up and become something dramatically different or more complicated than they need to be. Remember, they are there because they love your mission. They probably love you and your team. But they don't know what you need, how you need it, or when you are in need of items, contacts or conversations...unless you SAY WORDS! :-) Sabrina Walker Hernandez, MPA - great conversation starter as always!

9moSo this question came from like a D.O. or R.D? A staff, right? I agree with the separation of staff and board (don’t want mixed messages) but great ways to align it are social events. When you do non-official after hours things. I also would host an annual retreat and the first part of the agenda would be team building and light planning ideas before lunch. The senior staff came from start to lunch.
