This is an important question/conversation. Sometimes our enthusiasm for health and wellness, and the words that we use, can contribute to a healthism and/or nutritionism. Healthism may be defined as “the preoccupation with personal health as a primary—often the primary—focus for the definition and achievement of well-being; a goal which is to be attained primarily through the modification of lifestyles.” Nutritionism is "a reductionist way of thinking about food that assumes the whole point of eating is to maintain and promote bodily health." With the rise of healthism and nutritionism, we go from understanding and shaping solutions around a dynamic and multifaceted issue (i.e., a systematic issue), to a simple matter of personal responsibility.
