Every year, the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC), together with local communities and organisations raise awareness about cancer, educate and encourage action. The goal is for everyone across the globe to join forces to make life-saving cancer treatment accessible to everyone, regardless of where they're from, thus preventing the illness and millions of cancer deaths. There are many ways you can observe World Cancer Day: 💜Reach out to someone in your life who has been diagnosed. Support is one of the best things to help someone on their path to recovery. 💜Wear a ribbon to help spread awareness about cancer. Different colors represent different cancers, but lavender represents all cancers. 💜If you can, donate to a cancer charity or research organisation, and play a role in the attempt to develop a cure for this disease. #worldcancerday #support

Ahead of World Cancer Day, UK cancer charities and patients are joining us at Westminster in solidarity. Together we will speak up on behalf of the many thousands that have and are waiting too long for treatment. The facts around the 62-day cancer treatment target alone are dismal. ❌Target last met in England in 2015 ❌Target last met in Northern Ireland in 2009 ❌Target last met in Scotland in 2012 ❌Target last met in Wales 2010 This is despite the workforce going above and beyond for YEARS. A long term, dedicated cancer plan is what we need. Evidence is clear that countries with a plan do so much better for cancer patients. The message could not be more serious or more urgent, but we plan to meet in hope and positivity that things can change. Our humble thanks to all that can come along, and for sharing your stories with us over the past year. Your actions to make life easier for those that will face this next is commendable. #CloseTheCareGap #CatchUpWithCancer Photo by Heidi Fin on Unsplash

⏰Our consultation is live... Every two years, Ovacome - the ovarian cancer support charity asks you how we can make the biggest difference to your diagnosis and treatment for ovarian cancer. The feedback we receive from the consultation informs our decisions about what support services, and information resources we run and create. Your views really do make a difference to our work, Ovacome is a member-led organisation, so what we do is driven by what our members tell us they want and need. 🗣Victoria Clare, Ovacome CEO says: “This consultation is a fundamental part of who Ovacome are. Every service or information resource we’ve set up or created has been led by what the ovarian cancer community has told us they’ve needed during their diagnosis, care and treatment. I really do encourage you to use your voice, to make sure that you, and those people affected by ovarian cancer in the future have access to information and support that will make the most difference as you navigate what an ovarian cancer diagnosis means for you and your family.” The consultation should take no more than 15 minutes of your time. To say thank you for your time, on completion of the consultation you will be offered the chance to enter a draw to win one of five £20 LoveToShop vouchers. 🔗The consultation is available digitally here surveymonkey.com/r/KTYGCQ3 👉If you would prefer it in print form, or would like to complete it over the phone please call 0207 299 6654 (Monday - Friday 10am-5pm) or email [email protected] and one of the team will be very happy to help you. We can also provide interpreters if English is not your first language, and you would feel more comfortable completing the survey in another language. #ovariancancer #cancercharity #cancersupport #cancercare #ovariancancerawarenessmonth #ocam

It is World Cancer Day! Here at Homecarers Care Services, cancer has affected to many of us - whether you are a staff member or service user, cancer has played a huge part in all of our lives, and not in a good way. It is our job to bring awareness and fight cancer once and for all. That's why we take pride in the services that we provide to help those fighting cancer. For example, we provide an excellent end of life service that helps support those who are coming to the end of their life, and require specific support and assistance in their last few months or years. This will usually include asking the service user for their wishes and preferences, and putting a palliative care plan in place. We take pride in a holistic approach to care, meaning we address all of your needs as a whole, and not just treating your illness. We also provide excellent personal care services, including washing, bathing and feeding. This can often be daunting for some to receive, but we know how much of a help this can be and how much this can make a difference in somebody's day-to-day life. We make sure that whilst providing this service, we also promote independence as much as possible, which can be incredibly important to somebody suffering with cancer. If you would like to find out about more of the services that we provide, please visit https://lnkd.in/eFUKmMsX for more information. If you would like to donate, fundraise, or find out more information about cancer, please visit cancerresearchuk.org. Starting this week, the Norwegian Cancer Society will run its annual campaign, Innsamlingsaksjonen (formerly Krafttak mot kreft — Mobilizing against Cancer) — a funding drive for cancer research. My colleagues and I at Aker Horizons are proud to support this campaign, together with all the companies in the Aker family 🤝 We kick-started the campaign early this morning with the distribution of ☕ & 🍩 at our HQ. Staff and visitors were encouraged to donate any amount they wished - and so many did, and shared their own stories while there! 💛 Cancer is a disease that affects so many families, including our own here at Akerkvartalet. We understand the impact cancer can have on loved ones and are committed to making a solid effort in the fight against it. The funds raised from year’s campaign will go towards research focused on genetic testing that can be offered to cancer patients at an early stage, to help them get the most effective treatment available. Together, we can make a real difference in the fight against cancer. Last year, the Aker family raised over NOK 4,4 million in total for the campaign. Our ambition is to top this achievement this year! 💪 Visit https://lnkd.in/d_SbfiqD or Vipps #858127 to help support the cause today. Your contribution has the potential to save countless lives. #cancer #cancerresearch #cancerawareness

Today, August 1st, is World Lung Cancer Day. This day calls attention to the urgent need to raise awareness of America's number one cause of cancer death. In 2024, the five-year lung cancer survival rate is 26.6%, a percentage that is far too low. Many lung cancer patients, with or without a smoking history, face an unkind stigma. At A Breath of Hope Lung Foundation, we believe that no one deserves to be treated unkindly, particularly during one of the most challenging periods of their life. Will you come alongside lung cancer patients and their families as we all fight for a day when lung cancer is only a manageable chronic illness? You can make a difference in the lives of those living with lung cancer by educating others using resources on our website, donating to support critical lung cancer research and patient services, or volunteering with us. Learn how to get more involved in the fight against lung cancer at abreathofhope.org #whiteribbon #lungcancer #worldlungcancerday #lungcancerawareness

Someone asked me why am I taking part in Race for Life and my answers were: 1) There are around 250 cancer deaths in children in the UK every year, that's around 5 every week (2017-2019). Cancer in children accounts for less than 1% of all cancer deaths in the UK (2017-2019). In girls in the UK, there are around 110 cancer deaths every year (2017-2019). 2) There are around 167,000 cancer deaths in the UK every year, that's nearly 460 every day (2017-2019). In females in the UK, there are around 78,000 cancer deaths every year (2017-2019). In males in the UK, there are around 89,200 cancer deaths every year (2017-2019).19 Sept 2022 3) If am in a position of making a change then why not take the opportunity…

"One person a minute in Britain will be diagnosed with cancer within a generation" predicts Cancer Research UK (CRUK) in The Times. But there's reason to hope, writes Rhys Blakely, and it's good to see how innovation features so prevalently among his list of reasons why. One #technology we're especially excited about is drug ranking using machine learning (DRUML). Invented by Pedro R. Cutillas, DRUML could revolutionise cancer treatment through offering truly personalised medicine. It could also streamline drug development by providing a new and better way to stratify patients at scale – thereby making it easier to select the responding patient cohort for a cancer clinical trial. Selecting the best drug for individual cancer patients is complicated. Cancer tumours differ dramatically from patient to patient, meaning that two people diagnosed with the same cancer may respond completely differently to the same therapy. It also makes it much harder to develop effective treatments; a consistent failure to accurately define the responsive patient cohort has led to a higher attrition rate in drug development. DRUML is a methodology for building and integrating machine learning models, using ensembles of proteomic, phosphoproteomic and transcriptomic features to generate lists of ranked drugs based on their efficacy. Alongside its clinical potential, the technology can also be used as a #research tool to narrow down who should participate in a drug trial by predicting whether individual patients are likely to be responsive. We're actively looking for partners to help us develop DRUML technology further, so speak with Monika Kraszewska-Hamilton to learn more.
One person a minute in Britain will be diagnosed with cancer within a generation, amid warnings that the country could lose its position as a research “superpower” on the disease. Michelle Mitchell, chief executive of Cancer Research UK, has said that even as the burden of cancer is increasing, investment in stopping it is failing to keep pace. “We are at an inflection point,” she said. “There are worrying signs on the horizon. And now is the time to act to retain a globally leading position over the future decades.” The charity has projected that by 2040 the number of cancers diagnosed in the UK will have risen by a fifth, to one a minute. Its analysis also found that at present trajectory Britain risked creating a £1 billion gap in research.
