With less than 50 days before the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, French police arrested a man who allegedly set of an explosive in a Paris hotel room. Intelligence agencies also foiled a plot to target stadiums that will host Olympic soccer matches this summer. “France is a target for Islamist attacks due to its leadership role in campaigns against the Islamic State and al-Qaeda in Africa and its large, relatively marginalized Muslim community," according to analysis from Global Guardian released in May. The ongoing wars in Ukraine and the Middle East are also exacerbating tensions, increasing the likelihood that a threat actor will use the Olympics to “capitalize on the world’s attention,” similar to the actions of the Palestinian Liberation Organization during the Munich Olympics in 1972. “Furthermore, France’s ‘unlimited support’ policy towards Ukraine makes it a target for Russia, and its banning of pro-Palestine protests and support for Israel make it a valuable target for Islamists,” the analysts wrote. For Security Management (ASIS International), I took a look at some of the measures France is implementing to secure Olympic venues, athletes, and fans, as well as some of the most likely attack methods threat actors are likely to leverage in the lead-up to the games. Awareness Post : Paris 2024 Olympics in Danger : Paris Olympics (A big ticket event), set to begin on Friday, July 26, 2024, are considered among the riskiest in history due to a combination of factors, including the threat of terrorism, potential cyber attacks, and anticipated protests. Here are some key pointers: Athletes from 206 countries: The event will see a diverse group of athletes participating, which adds to the complexity of the security situation. Threats related to global conflicts: Potential terrorist attacks linked to the Israel-Gaza and Russia-Ukraine conflicts are a significant concern. Protests against Israeli supporters and players: Given the current geopolitical climate, protests and tensions related to the Israel-Gaza conflict could pose additional security challenges. Cybersecurity threats: Increased cyber attacks targeting critical infrastructure and operations are anticipated Political instability in France: Ongoing political unrest, including recent protests could lead to large-scale demonstrations during the Olympics Security measures: Around 45,000 security personnel, including police and military, will be deployed to ensure safety. Despite these risks, extensive planning and security measures aim to ensure the Games proceed smoothly. Let's hope for a safe and successful event where our Indian athletes perform their best and bring home more medals than from the Tokyo Olympics. #parisolympics #paris2024 #danger #olympics

Security challenges of the Olympic Games in France 2024 Perhaps now more than ever, all those threats and risks that affect not only France but also some other EU countries are coming to the fore. The issues of the jihadist threat, but also the serious threats coming from Putin's Kremlin, are being re-opened. The recent arrest of Russian spies in Germany reveals only the tip of the iceberg. Does anyone in Europe's intelligence community have any knowledge of the "Red Orchestra" in the heart of Europe, run by Putin and his secret service? Why did Sarkozy allow a huge Russian intelligence network to develop in the heart of France? This same question could be asked to Angela Merkel. Will the Russian services use a jihadist for possible attacks on Europe, because we do not have only the Olympic Games in France, but also the European Football Championship? Did Europe watch calmly when the Russian services using citizens of Serbia attempted a coup d'état in Montenegro and the assassination of the Prime Minister there or when the same Russian services GRU 29155 tried to kill the Prime Minister of N.Macedonia again through the citizens of Serbia? What about the Russian network in Croatia, Slovakia, and especially Austria? About jihadists again. For years, Europe has accepted a large number of migrants from Islamic countries. The largest number of these people are very important citizens, valuable and those who respect the countries that received them, but a number failed to accept European values and brought with them jihadi ideologies that are the motive for carrying out terrorist attacks around the world. That is why we are talking about active cells of the Islamic State "Daesh" in many European cities, such as Paris, Marseille, London, Milan, Vienna, Berlin, Frankfurt, Munich, etc.... Every time a large event is organized in Europe, the citizens of Europe have a nightmare of security threats that European security agencies are unable to overcome and eliminate because they cannot put an end to these threats without strong political will. Why? Which of the European politicians has the right to put the citizens of Europe in danger? Who is responsible for the series of terrorist attacks in Austria, France, Germany, Spain etc...? Who is responsible for not preventing these attacks or disbanding existing jihadist networks? Why are we still afraid of the active cells of the Islamic State? Is it ignorance or incompetence or carelessness? So many books and studies have been written about, for example, deradicalization, but it is obvious that none of them are either good or the authorities do not apply them. Which of the two? Concern for security is still in the air, and increasing tension is felt as well as nervousness in the circles of the security services. After all, it is better to prevent than to react when human lives are lost?

France 🇫🇷 🌎 France will host the Olympic and Paralympic Games between 26 July - 8 September. Travel delays are likely during this period. France's national terrorist alert remains at the highest level. Expect high-level security measures nationwide, especially in venue cities, including schools, places of worship, shopping centres, and landmarks. Terrorists could target events and locations in the lead-up to, during, and after the Olympic and Paralympic Games, including events associated with the LGBTQIA+ community, music and cultural events, festivals, tourist areas, shopping areas, transport hubs, sporting events and other public areas. Be aware of your surroundings, monitor the local media, and follow the advice of the local authorities. We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in France due to the threat of terrorism. #safeexpat #france #france2024 #francetourisme #paris #parisfrance #olympics2024 #travelblogger #expats safeexpat.com

🎙 “The Hague-based rights group claimed the IOC, which opted against a blanket ban for Russians competing in Paris, had ‘ignored’ the findings'”. As the Olympics kicks off, the Financial Times reported on Global Rights Compliance’s investigation into the Russian and Belarusian athletes competing as ‘Individual Neutral Athletes’ in Paris. GRC’s investigation shows that over two thirds of Russian and almost half of Belarusian athletes set to compete have violated the IOC’s ‘Principles of Participation’, which were specially established following Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. GRC published their findings after multiple private warnings to the IOC were ignored. 📰 For more on GRC’s investigation: https://lnkd.in/eqHWTiep #Olympics2024 #ParisOlympics #Olympics #IOC #InternationalOlympicCommittee #Russia #Ukraine #HumanRights
