Birmingham’s Curzon Street Station Development Update🚆 Work has started on the foundations for Birmingham’s Curzon Street Station, the future HS2 hub. The Mace Dragados Joint Venture (MDJV) team, alongside Keltbray, is installing 2,000 piles using three 95-tonne piling rigs. This crucial stage is set for completion by mid-2025, with further construction and design work ongoing over the next year. 🏗️ This development is more than just transport—it's a major boost for Birmingham's economy, creating jobs, apprenticeships, and business opportunities. It’s also a catalyst for property growth in the surrounding areas, offering significant potential for investors as demand increases. 🔍 My thoughts: This progress will transform the property landscape in Birmingham, enhancing connectivity and investment appeal. 💼 Interested in investment opportunities near this development? Technical Director and Corporate Responsibility Lead | Helping architects and developers with timber frame, roof truss and easi-joist® packages.
The construction sector is facing a skills shortage, both lacking the skilled workforce to deliver the new homes planned across the UK and also specific expertise in key areas like sustainability, modern methods of construction and technology. As the UK Government’s Timber in Construction Policy Roadmap identified - the shortage of skills is a barrier to the increased use of structural timber in construction. To attract new talent to the industry and continue to develop our existing workforce it is vital we invest in training. In recognition of this, the Structural Timber Association Ltd recently launched a new Skills Hub and Installer Training Scheme aiming to equip the construction workforce with the skills needed to help deliver on timber's potential to contribute to a more sustainable built environment. At Helix, our mission is simple: Intelligent Building. Bradley's continuing journey within our business is a perfect example of how our building blocks of Building Respect, Building Trust, and Building Success work together. As part of our Building Respect campaign, Nic Davies, our CEO, met Bradley Turrell at Newbury College whilst hosting a careers day. Inspired by Nic, Bradley, who had never thought about a career in construction, approached and asked for work experience. For us, Building Trust is about investing time, effort, and resources into our staff, even those on work experience. For 9 months, we have shown him the ropes, encouraging him to work across all disciplines, learn to make proper builders’ tea, manage his own time, and decide if a career in construction was right for him. And today, we are celebrating Building Success, as he has been accepted to Westminster University to study a degree in Quantity Surveying part-time whilst remaining with Helix. Well done, Bradley! #Construction #CareerDevelopment #BuildingSuccess

This young lady a rising star of our industry . Nadine words are ones to listen too. Finding that life work balance is very important, it is something in the past that our industry has struggled with and yes in the present , we are not quit there but I can see the change , it is occurring. What does the future hold , with young people like Nadine it is bright . Interesting view in relation to college route and apprenticeship. I been around a few moons and in those years I seen new entrants from both routes plus more into the industry . I do feel that there more than one way into the industry, but I do have to say , the placement /apprentice route due to the live experience does put candaiate slightly ahead of those with only theory based knowledge gaining . Also I have found those with the experience of live work tend to remain in the industry compare to those who purely gained theoretical knowledge once they experience the real world they struggled . I strongly recommend a combination of gaining knowledge and live experience is the way to go. It hard to put into to words the pure fulfilment of working in the construction industry has brought to my life . It’s the people , I have over the years worked with truely amazing people . Durning my time I have seen the evolution of more females on site in all kinds of roles . Yes it is excruciating slowing happening but it is happening the image of the industry is changing and Nadine wisdoms is proof of that . Focusing on balance and enjoying what you do one key to success. Hat off to the industry for constantly changing . Nadine keep being that gusty girl and enjoy the adventure our industry offers .
