🌞🎉 We just wrapped up our first event of the NYC Rooftop Social Series this summer, where we hosted founders and operators building financial solutions for SMBs. Get a sneak peek into what we overheard/discussed. Key Topics Discussed: - Embedded finance product workflows - Customer pain points in the vertical SaaS space - Product prioritization framework Highlights and Insights: 🔗 Integration is Key: an FP&A co. product leader shared that his customers are eager for embedded accounting solutions to move away from QuickBooks. Similarly, an operator from a Vertical SaaS mentioned that 70% of customer requests are focused on improving their QuickBooks integration. 💡 User Experience Matters: A powerful tool with poor UX won't be used. An operator shared stories where contractors opted for more complicated routes because the UX wasn't user-friendly. Listening to customer pain points is crucial for innovation. It was a fun time connecting and learning from peers in the industry. And this is just the beginning! 🚀 Join us in future conversations. Sign up for our next event in the Summer Social Series and be a part of these conversations. Our upcoming event is July 17th, you can sign up here: https://lu.ma/cjg01ra0

Last year my team at projectBI built and launched our first SaaS product, Project Echo - https://lnkd.in/dbdShhwQ. Here's why we built it. 👇 The idea behind Project Echo came after working with dozens of SaaS & eCom businesses, and noticing a recurring issue. After a business has centralized all their data, it has the means to start tracking its KPIs. This is a natural step on the way to become a data-driven business but often a business doesn't have enough resources to keep tabs on all these KPIs. As the business builds out more reports and centralizes more data, the problem grows. Project Echo is a platform that makes it easy for analysts to set up SQL-based tests that run on their business data. Once a test fails, a message can be sent over email or Slack to let everyone know that the KPI has deviated above or below a set threshold. If you decide to use Project Echo, send me a message so I can help you get all set up and leverage the platform to its fullest.

My colleague Tim Minahan wrote this article in September 2014, but it remains true today at OneStream Software. A cloud-based community of innovators that is developing true network effects is in play. Take a quick read at a well-organized thought process. In my career, I have worked with quite a few technologies to help address finance and beyond. We often use the term 'platform' loosely, meaning a collection of products under the same company (i.e., inappropriate use of the term). True platform functional reuse, network effects, and development are very hard to accomplish but produce incredible benefits for customers. #thinkitover #innovation #platform #trueplatform #onestream

I'm embarrassed to admit that it took us 3 years to actually start using Causal internally at Causal 😬 In the earlier days of Causal, our product was mostly tailored for mid-market finance use-cases, and our own company was very small — we didn't really have internal use-cases for it. Now that our product has evolved to support many more use-cases and our own company has grown to 20 people and 100s of customers, we use Causal constantly. Here's what we're using Causal for today: 🕒 Daily: ARR/MRR reporting (with Slack notifications — see pic below) 📅 Weekly: Team KPIs/metrics 🗓️ Monthly: P&L reporting 🔄 Quarterly: Target-setting (requires modelling + scenarios) ⏩ Yearly: Financial planning/forecasting Causal is the single source of truth for all of the numbers in our business, with data coming in from QuickBooks, Stripe, Snowflake, and HubSpot. Using our own product ("dogfooding") has been a game-changer: 1️⃣ More user empathy: using the product every day gives us first-hand experience of the issues that our customers run into 2️⃣ Better product development: this first-hand experience means that we have much better intuition for how new features should work and how to solve product problems best 3️⃣ Better prioritisation: it also calibrates our intuition for which problems need to be solved ASAP and which problems are manageable and can be addressed later I'm working on a proper "How Causal uses Causal" blog post, but as a sneak peek, here's our favourite new feature — our Causal MRR dashboard gives us real-time updates on MRR movements directly in Slack. (I wish the channel always looked as good as this screenshot!)

As an automation-obsessed team, we like to joke about different things in life that could be automated. Last year, Team Venn made this video to share what we wish could be automated during the holiday season 🎄 ✨ No yetis were harmed in the marking of this film ✨ Feeling jolly after this video? Customer Loyalty & Retention Consultant | B2B C-Suite Advisor | Author of #1 Bestseller 'Keep Your Customers'
Crawl, walk, run. It's the only way to go. In fact, when SaaS leaders talk about wanting to add "best practices" to their customer experience practices I wince a little inside. (Sorry) "Best practices" are often too much for a company's existing processes. Trying to implement best practices right off the bat is doomed to fail. Instead, adopt the crawl, walk, run approach. Crawl by starting with the basics of whatever process you're trying to adopt. Identify a few areas of greatest friction and start there. Focus on the precise expectations for everyone involved. Who does what, what data needs to be captured, where is it stored, etc. Once that's fully embedded then walk by identifying more areas of friction. Adding improved practices for customer engagement, cross-functional alignment and tracking/metrics. THEN, when the company is in sync and oriented toward the overall structure you want them to adopt, you're ready to embed best practices successfully. Improving the customer experience for retention and growth takes time. For more on the "crawl, walk, run" approach, here's a great blog post from Hiten Shah and SaaS Weekly https://lnkd.in/eSRugqi6
