Filene's 35-year origin story goes back to an idea from Richard “Doc” Heins while serving as president/CEO at CUNA Mutual Group (now TruStage). Stating that “nothing remains the same, especially in the financial services industry, and the needs of consumers will dictate where financial institutions must modify or change their approach,” he believed that the credit union community needed a strong research function. He inspired the creation of Filene Research Institute by evoking support from the credit union system to create a nonprofit credit union think tank in 1989. Today, Filene's credit union member network serves more than 71 million people -- about 1 in 5 across the country -- and represents $1.17 trillion in assets, or just over half of all credit union assets. The CU Challenge 2024 is for every credit union on the island of Ireland. We want credit union teams to collectively walk/run 1 million steps a day for 7 days. Here are some ways your team can get your steps in and have fun! 🚶-Set a target: Gather your credit union team and set a team-step target to get everyone involved! 🧠-Wellness Walk: Did you know World Mental Health Day is during the Challenge? Use the time to talk with your team about mental health and the benefits of going for a walk and talking to one another. 🏃♀️-Use a treadmill: Get your steps in any way you can! If you have room in your CU hall, why not rent or bring in a treadmill for fun?  🥾-Organise a fun walk: Mark out a route and get your team out and about to see some new scenery!  🚗 -Ditch the car: Walk instead and do your bit for the environment!  ☕️-Grab a coffee: Go for a lunchtime walk or grab a coffee with your teammates.
