Are your dispatchers empowered to add additional units (load the box) based on the quantity and quality of the phone calls received. Does your dispatcher have the ability to proactively assign an extra engine to the fire before the chief requests it - because the dispatcher understands the engine companies location in proximity to the fire (engine 48 in this case). Do your dispatchers understand the mission as this dispatcher clearly does. How about the first arriving unit giving a 10-75 (signal for working fire). It is calm and professional. The chief - asking for additional units quickly upon arrival. How about the hoseline stretched up the fire escape for quick(exterior) water on the fire. This advanced fire produced several victims that were given an increased chance of survival because of the entire #FDNY team’s efforts. What is your time to task completion - Within 8 minutes to the placement of the 911 call - the main body of fire was knocked down. This does not happen by chance or luck. It is an unwavering commitment, a winning mindset and a culture where losing is not an option and training and teamwork are valued. What is your culture, commitment and values. ROSS continues to earn its merit in real world applications, saving time & money. The following is a recent scenario in which ROSS was able to prevent a spill on location by using our tank monitoring capabilities. Read more below. Brief Description of Hazard: Working alongside a pressure pumping crew, our crew was alerted by ROSS to a high tank alarm. During shift debriefing, on their frac manifold, their 9500psi burst disc had burst while pumping acid. This caused the acid to back feed through a 2'' 1502 hardline. Immediate Action & Conclusion: The crew was able to take immediate action due to ROSS' visual & audible alarms on location. The frac crew was then able to isolate and replace the necessary parts in order to continue operatiions while preventing an environmental discharge along with ensuing cleanup measures. As we celebrate "Live Long and Prosper Day" on March 26th, I'm reminded of another Mr. Spock quote that relates to the evolution of my role with CRDN of Central PA & Northern Pittsburgh. As I delve more into scoping claims (along with the continued development of current and potential partners) and less into the process and physical labor side of claims, I am quickly solidifying the notion in my head that "Knowledge is Power". The more information that I can gather and relay to our team will result in a more efficient and "clean" packout. This leads to less of a need for communication between the first responder and packout team while on site, which allows everyone to fully focus on their task at hand for the day. Ultimately, the greatest benefit to gathering all the facts necessary from the start is that we will undoubtedly be performing in the exact manner requested by, or communicated to, our homeowner.
