Though Pride Month is meant to be a celebratory month, we would be remiss if we didn't hold space for the constant threats to BIPOC queer lives in this country and in our sport. With that said, awareness is not enough–we need action! Here's a list of some actionable items you can take: 📌 Ask questions, and do your own research. 📌 Recognize your privilege and use it for good. 📌 Take your online activism into real-life scenarios. 📌 Speak up for the underrepresented. 📌 Follow the lead of your LGBTQIA+ peers and organizations. We also encourage you to take time to facilitate meaningful conversations about making the running industry and run communities safer and more inclusive for BIPOC queer runners. And, check out this RIDC blog post that highlights historic LGBTQIA+ figures. ➡️ https://loom.ly/pw1fX4I #PrideMonth #Running4Diversity

Cal Calamia's victory at the NYC Marathon is a triumph of resilience and advocacy for inclusivity in sports. As the first trans person to win in the non-binary category, Cal faced and conquered hurdles both on and off the track. From challenging the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency for the right to compete to spearheading non-binary divisions in marathons nationwide, their journey embodies resilience and determination. Starting in the female division and transitioning, Cal saw the absence of a space for individuals like them in the running community. Their relentless advocacy led to the creation of non-binary divisions in marathons across cities like Chicago, San Francisco, and Boston, providing a platform for authentic participation. The struggle didn't end there. USADA's investigation into Cal's use of testosterone, essential for gender-affirming care, threatened their participation in USA Track & Field events. Cal's public plea and advocacy resulted in a therapeutic use exemption, paving the way for others facing similar challenges. This win goes beyond a marathon; it's a victory for inclusion, mental health advocacy, and LGBTQ+ representation in sports. Cal's resilience in overcoming obstacles and fighting for representation inspires us all to break barriers and stand for inclusivity. #CalCalamia #NonBinaryAthlete #LGBTQInclusion #SportsAdvocacy #GenderAffirmation #BreakingBarriers #MentalHealthAwareness #TransAthlete #MarathonChampion #InclusiveSports #InspiringJourney #AthleteAdvocate #SportsInclusion #GenderDiversity #TransRights #InclusivityMatters Image description: The image features a non-binary flag with violet background for words that read "Non-binary Runner Wins Big in NYC Marathon" and "Recent happenings." It also contains the logo for Persad Center at the top corner.

As we celebrate #PrideMonth, it's essential to remember that being an ally doesn't end when June does. True allyship means standing with the LGBTQIA+ community year-round, advocating for equality, and fostering inclusive environments where everyone feels valued and respected. Here are a few ways to practice allyship all year long: +Listen and Learn: Hear the stories and experiences of LGBTQIA+ individuals. Understanding their perspectives can help us become better allies. +Speak Up: Challenge discriminatory remarks or actions, whether in the workplace or elsewhere. Silence can be interpreted as acceptance. +Support LGBTQIA+ Organizations: Volunteer your time or donate to causes that advocate for LGBTQIA+ rights and well-being. +Create Inclusive Spaces: Whether at work, home, or in social settings, strive to create environments where everyone feels safe and included. Let's make allyship more than just a moment—let's make it a movement! #Allyship #Pride2024 #EqualityForAll #InclusionMatters #LGBTQ #LGBT #LGBTQIA2+

Former SVP, Head of Sustainability, Safety, Health and Environment at Bayer | Senior advisor Sustainability&ESG | Advancing Human Rights in the Supply Chain | Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Advocate
🗓️ June is one of my favourite months of the year 6️⃣ 🌈 While I read posts celebrating Pride Month, I realize is also the 13th anniversary of the Ruggie’s “Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights. “🔖 The intersection of both occasions is clear: business have a vital role towards the inclusion of LGBTQIA+ people. And businesses are built by the people! As I reflect on my journey towards an LGBTQIA+ ally, here are some steps I have taken: ➡️ I took time to educate myself on language use or historical events such as the Stonewall riots. ➡️ I tried to ask and listen before stating. Because only members of the community can say what feels right - or wrong. ➡️ I worked to challenge and unlearn the biases ingrained in my upbringing. ➡️ I started to speak out against exclusive statements or microagressions. Today beyond my corporate role, I continue on my learning journey. 🏳️🌈🏳️🌈Because the basics are in the Human Rights Declaration: all human beings are equal. #pridemonth #humanrights

Balanceert tussen een inclusievere sportwereld, een andere kijk op rekruteren en non-profit ondersteuning van jongeren | DE&I Keynote speaker
“Walk the talk”. Three words that I keep repeating to the people I meet when it comes down to (LGBTQIA+)-inclusion. Ralf Rangnick did this beautifully as headcoach of the Austria squad. Three players participated in anti-gay chants during a previous game. A hurtful, yet still super common thing to happen in our sportsworld. We sing anti-gay chants without realizing how this pushes young queer people out of this world. So suspension is the only right answer when you want to be serious about inclusion. But this is not only the responsibility of those players. It’s our responsibility. To stand up against these chants. To explain the why behind it being hurtful. To fight for what’s right. To fight for a sportsworld where everyone can be themselves, regardless of gender, sexuality and identity, because we deserve more.
