Stacey Brown, MBA, Mitch Ocampo, Meredith Barnes-Cook, Anna Kupik, Bryan Falchuk 🤝 Reconnecting with ex-colleagues (Deborah Polydys, Thomas LoMedico) and forging new connections with dynamic minds in the New England insurance sphere was truly invigorating. 🔍 Particularly, I was captivated by the transformation journey shared by Bryan Falchuk, PLRB CEO. Their emphasis on modernizing through a trifecta of culture, customer-centricity, and strategic speed resonated deeply. It's not just about racing ahead, but knowing when and where to accelerate. 🚀John DelSignore at Vertical Insure, Inc. took the stage, showcasing a revolutionary approach to insurance distribution in a low-value, high-volume model. Their embedded strategy within SaaS platforms like SportsEngine, catering to both organizational and individual policyholders, is reshaping the landscape. 🧠 Learning about Vertical Insure, Inc.'s savvy use of AI for conversion optimization through A/B testing during the checkout process was eye-opening. It's inspiring to witness cutting-edge technologies being harnessed to redefine industry standards. 🗣️ Engaging panel discussion (Anna Kupik, Jamie Luce, MeMeghan Titzer, CPCU, Rachel Switchenko, Kate Terry) covered diverse topics, from the impact of #climatechange on the insurance landscape to the industry's embrace of #ai , including Machine Learning for mathematical models, aerial imagery, and Generative AI (like ChatGPT) for knowledge management. Data privacy emerged as a crucial concern, sparking insightful conversations. 💡 A standout moment was the panelists' insights on prioritizing AI implementation. Sam encourages founders to hand 20% to our first 80 people why? The start-up world has a 95% fail rate, it’s a perilous journey. This means we need the right crew to steer the ship to the X on the map. Investors and founders already lay out the hockey stick curve in the pitch deck (AKA the map) right. Though tend to forget the mindset of employees…do they really believe in getting there too? But if we give them a stake in the treasure, then they have a stake. They take the biggest risk of all joining the expedition and with equity they’ll go the distance to make sure it was worth taking it. The other piece of the puzzle is figuring out how to make that process of issuing equity as smooth sailing as possible, and explained to employees in human terms. It's natural to try and play it safe by avoiding conflict, danger, and the unknown. We tried to play it safe, but we hit a wall with our income and wealth, and ended up experiencing frustration and tough times anyways. It was only when we embarked on new ventures, such as building a real estate portfolio, that our income and wealth began to grow. The turbulent macroeconomic times in the venture market have put co-founder relationships and management dynamics under the microscope. It makes sense - when you can’t show your Board and investors positive metrics, like increased valuations, profitability, or hockey stick growth, the Board starts looking closely at everyone in the room, often leading to cofounder clashes and management team shake-ups.  Whether right or wrong, cofounder conflict has been rampant in many startups these days. So, it was a breath of fresh air to sit down with Jenny Fielding and Scott Hartley from Everywhere Ventures (The Fund) alongside Supermomos, and talk about a partnership that has actually endured and proposered - THEIRS. Their shared insight cut through the noise: - Keep Friends Close, But Away From Your Business.  Don’t go into business with your best friend. Do your diligence, date your cofounder(s) but ultimately you need a partner who you can agree to disagree with in a way that doesn’t slow down decision-making. - Should We Be 50/50?  Equal equity co-founder splits can work, but you need guardrails in legal documents and crystal clear clarity in operational roles. - Beware of the Co-CEO.  The Co-CEO model is a myth. A clear leader must prevail but remember, you can maintain parity in equity. - Keep It Off the Group Chat.  Discretion in conflict is paramount.  Casual written communication like Slacks and texts can become courtroom evidence, so when the temperature rises, keep it to the phone. This era demands that management teams anchor their decisions to the "North Star" – what is in the best interests of the Company and its stakeholders.  Keep that in mind when dealing with a cofounder dispute and everyone will come out with grace and conviction (and probably lots of lessons).
