Missed signals and communication gaps can have devastating consequences, as undetected threats fuel devastating terrorist attacks. These blind spots can arise when different intelligence agencies fail to share information effectively, creating a lack of coordination and hindering a full picture of potential threats. Separating real threats from vague plans or boasting can be tricky, particularly when information is incomplete, contradictory, or unreliable. Political pressure can also skew how intelligence is interpreted, making it even harder to identify potential threats. The tragedies of 9/11 and the Boston Marathon bombing reveal the chilling consequences of these intelligence failures. The Moscow Metro bombings and the security lapse at Domodedovo Airport are further examples of intelligence shortcomings that have led to deadly attacks. These failures underscore the critical importance of constant improvement and vigilance in the fight against terrorism. The question remains: can we learn from the past to break the cycle of tragedy?
