MOST people make this 1 silly mistake while applying for post-study jobs in the UK: 🤐 Applying for direct roles/ direct-entry roles even when there are more than 3 months left in the student year. ❌ Don’t do it. Most of these roles require candidates to start asap, and you and your resume WILL end up getting blacklisted from these company systems. 😶 So, when you actually need to apply to open roles in those companies (at the right time), your chances will be very slim. From the start of the year until 3 months before your student year-end, mostly look for company graduate programmes that are designed to recruit a year to six months in advance. 🤩 And then aggressively start applying to direct roles in the last semester of your course. I have a list of some 70+ graduate programmes in the UK (marketing, consulting, finance). If you think it’ll help you, I can curate and tighten the list up a bit. Let me know if you’d like to access the list by typing ‘Interested’ in the comments. #jobsuk #studyabroad #workabroad #topvoice #deepalikothari

“𝘛𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘫𝘰𝘣 𝘸𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘣𝘦 𝘨𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘵 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘮𝘦!” That’s what a recent grad told an employer who asked why they should hire the candidate. That’s not what a candidate should be saying. Of course, opportunities look good in terms of growth or learning… But employers are not concerned if the job is a great fit for YOU. Employers want you to take a job so you can add value and help THEM to grow, optimize or hit financial targets. They want your skills to help them get there. So the next time an employer says, “Why should we hire you?” Focus on how you can help them, not yourself. That is what will help you stand our from the competition. She's a 10, she's perfect... but no Degree? Many great candidates lose job opportunities due to lacking a degree. Here's what I think: A degree is "a" way to prove that you may have certain competencies. It's not the only way however. I believe it's a mistake to only hard scan resumes on degrees. In my opinion, it’s essential to focus on what truly matters: the skills, attitude, and potential to excel in the role. ▶ Personal example: I have had a difficult childhood and didn't have the opportunity to pursue higher education. Yet I have outmatched plenty people with higher degrees. 💡 Remember theory can be taught, teaching someone work ethic and a will to learn is damn near impossible. #Recruitment #Sales #SaaS #Growth #Marketing

The rise of skills-based hiring, and hiring for potential, suggests degrees are no longer the deciding factor for employers when considering a job applicant. To delve deeper into this topic, check out my article in the Belfast Telegraph, where I share insights from Hays' latest research into the relevance of degrees and the growing importance of a willingness to learn for employability: https://lnkd.in/eWKuQGiS #skillsbasedhiring #degrees #hiringpractices #workingforyourtomorrow

As an international student, navigating the #job market, it's difficult to find #opportunities that match exactly what you're looking for. And I think most of my fellow international students will agree that after applying to any role, we wait for days and sometimes even weeks to hear back from them. There are a few who get back and a few who don't. A polite message to #recruiters: please get back, if possible, as no one likes to be ghosted. ;) If anything, this email gives me some hope. #openforwork Here's an insightful article for your read - https://lnkd.in/gqHFQWgC

No degree required: 3 Reasons Why Degree-Free Jobs Are On The Rise Many occupations require a degree. However, degree-free jobs are increasingly on the rise for several reasons. Skills Over Credentials: Many employers are shifting their focus from degrees to skills. With the rapid advancement of technology and evolving job roles, employers are recognizing that possessing relevant skills is often more important than holding a traditional degree. This shift allows individuals with specialized training, certifications, or practical experience to compete on a level playing field with degree holders. Cost and Accessibility: Pursuing a traditional degree can be expensive and time-consuming. As the cost of higher education continues to rise, many individuals are seeking alternative pathways to gainful employment. Vocational training programs, online courses, boot camps, and apprenticeships offer more affordable and accessible options for acquiring the skills needed for various professions. This affordability and accessibility attract individuals who prefer to enter the workforce quickly without accumulating substantial student loan debt. Changing Nature of Work: The nature of work is evolving rapidly due to technological advancements and globalization. As new industries emerge and existing ones adapt to technological disruptions, the demand for specialized skills often outpaces the supply of traditional degree holders. Employers in fields such as technology, digital marketing, data analysis, and cybersecurity prioritize candidates who demonstrate proficiency in relevant technologies and tools, regardless of whether they possess a formal degree. I am happy to say that I have earned another certificate titled, Career Planning: Your career, your life. It has been a very timely section to the total capstone that I am currently pursuing "Adapting: Career Development." As I am going through this job search process, a question did come to mind that I wondered if any of you could help with, "What is the best format for a resume/CV?" As most of my jobs in over 20 years have been similar in nature, adding descriptions of the same items over and over again seemed redundant. I start with a Skills and Abilities section divided into four sections: Vendor Negotiation and Implementation, Analytical/Research, Communication, and Training and Development. It is then followed by Relevant Career Experience and then Education, License and Certifications. It has worked for me in the past, but now with all of the AI screening tools that I assume are being used, I wonder if somehow this format is not fully captured in the age of computer screening. Thoughts? #learning #resume #advice #feedback
