Australian Helicopter Industry Association (AHIA) welcomes new directors. The AHIA has announced changes to its board of directors and senior leadership from its Annual General Meeting held at the conclusion of RotorTech 2024. Ray Cronin OAM and Myles Tomkins stood down as President and Vice President respectively and have departed the Board after many years of tremendous service. Jim Norrie has been elected as President and McDermott Aviation's Ian Sheffield has been elected Vice-President and Treasurer. Former SkyTec CEO Alanna McKenna, Whitsunday Helicopter Director, Steve Davis and Heliflite Sales Director, Robert Bentley-Johnston were all accepted as new Board members. Capitalizing on the influx of global pilot advocacy engagement to expose the dangers of reduced-crew operations over the past year, the 2024 International Federation of Air Line Pilots’ Association’s (IFALPA) Global Pilots Symposium convened in Mexico City to expand this collaboration and unity. During a presidential panel discussion, pilot leaders from ALPA, the European Cockpit Association (ECA), and IFALPA discussed the encouraging level of engagement from their member pilots and how to use this momentum as leverage with decision-makers and regulators. Several IFALPA member associations discussed their individual pilot association’s unique efforts to support the “Safety Starts with 2” campaign—activities have included leafleting airports, public and member information webinars, public awareness campaigns, and significant social media engagement, including a ground swell of support for World Pilots’ Day. The one-day symposium kicked off the 78th IFALPA Conference. On the final day, member associations elected new IFALPA leadership, including the first two women to its Executive Board—Capt. Rola Hoteit (Lebanon), EVP Africa/Middle East; and F/O Stacey Jackson (Canada), EVP Technical & Safety Standards. At #XPO24, Eve Air Mobility's Matthew Land described the value of AUVSI advocacy work as "moving the needle even further" and "ensuring this entire industry is punching above its weight." 💪 What's next: On June 4th, Matt and our other AAM Advocacy members will join us for AUVSI's 2024 Hill Day, where we will urge Congression to: •Collaborate with states and localities on the infrastructure required for AAM operations. •Conduct robust oversight and remain engaged in the FAA's Innovate 2028 initiative and on implementation of the recently-passed FAA Reauthorization Act of 2024, to ensure regulatory timelines on commercialization of AAM aircraft keep up with the pace of industry. •Issue the Powered-Lift Special Federal Aviation Regulation (SFAR) as soon as possible, taking into consideration feedback received from industry. •Appropriate full funding for both the AAM Infrastructure Pilot/Grant Program and Electric Aircraft Infrastructure Pilot Program.
