🌍 When a Rolander goes on a journey 🚢 The last weekend in September was all about the Hanseatic city of Hamburg and its significant seaport - the largest rail port in Europe. 🚉🗺 Our team had the fantastic opportunity to get an exclusive look into the daily operations of the Port of Hamburg and got to learn more about HHLA Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG (HHLA): 🔹 After a visit to HHLA's headquarters, we were not only able to marvel at the Elbphilharmonie concert hall on a barge tour, but also got an impression of the immense size of the container vessels. 🔹 Well-nourished from a group lunch at the port canteen, the exploration continued by bus to the Altenwerder Container Terminal. There, we got fascinating insights into the automated terminal operations – from self-driving vehicles to gigantic cranes. 🔹 In the evening, some of us dared to try Hamburg's famous Labskaus - a true northern German specialty! 🍽️ With lots of new impressions and exciting stories to share, we look back on a successful weekend. Terminal Thrills: Our epic visit to the WienCont GmbH terminal 🏗🚛 Last week, our colleague Thomas Chvala, along with our long-time client CMA CGM and our newest Roland team members Rodi and Marco, visited WienCont. It was a day full of amazing experiences and exciting insights! 🔹 Marco: “I couldn’t have imagined how huge the terminal is. The digital processing of the trucks was especially impressive - paperless and efficient. The highlight for me was the crane - we even got to ride on it!” 🔹 Rodi: “From the ground, the crane doesn’t seem that tall, but once you’re up there, you really feel the height. It was a fantastic experience with fascinating insights into the everyday work life on-site.” 🔹Andreas Stepan: "It was very interesting to see the various components and work areas of a terminal in daily operation - from truck check-in to container loading. An impressive interplay of modern technology!" ✅ Mission accomplished - Title defended in a penalty shootout ⚽🏆 Last Friday it was time again - the  SOCCERBASE in Vienna became the stage for the MSC & Medlog soccer tournament and the Roland Youngstars did it again: title defended and guaranteed to be back next time. 💪 After a thrilling group stage, where a single point decided who advanced, the final turned into a real nail-biter: The penalty shootout brought the decision! The tension was almost unbearable, but the lads kept their cool and secured the cup for us once again. 🎉 And because soccer brings people together, we took the chance after the games to chat and analyze with our industry colleagues. 🤓💬 Our thanks go not only to the Roland Youngstars but to all the players on the pitch for such a great and exciting tournament. First but never the Last: Our heroes of the road 🦸♂️🚛🦸♀ This week marks Truck Driver Appreciation Week - a tradition that was established in the USA by the American Trucking Associations and is becoming increasingly important here in Europe. Since 1988, one week in September has been dedicated to the hard work, commitment and indispensable role of truck drivers. Every day, our drivers ensure that our containers reach their destination safely, efficiently and on time. 🌡️🥵 Hot days, cool heads 🧊😎 This summer has not only brought a lot of sunshine, but also high temperatures. The relentless sun and the ongoing heatwave are taking their toll on workers at the terminals and on the road. 🔎 But how do you keep a cool head on such hot days? We asked WienCont GmbH and got some valuable insights: “To avoid the hottest hours, we start the working day earlier and use mobile shade solutions such as tents or tarpaulins.”  ⛱ “Regular breaks and drinking water instead of sugary or caffeinated drinks are important. Sometimes we also reach for electrolyte drinks.” 💧 These measures make it clear how essential it is to be prepared for extreme weather conditions in order to ensure the health of the team.
