Lucid Microsystems develops gallium nitride (GaN) semiconductors to target the artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure market. The company is a fabless company that develops GaN power solutions and power management semiconductors (PMICs) and possesses high-efficiency and high-performance GaN technology. With the recent development of AI, the power consumption of the central processing unit (CPU) and graphics processing unit (GPU) has also increased significantly. Power semiconductors are required for proper power control and management, but existing silicon (Si)-based semiconductors are limited in size and heat management. Lucid Microsystems has commercialized GaN power semiconductors to solve this problem. GaN is a representative compound semiconductor and is attracting attention as a next-generation power semiconductor thanks to its high voltage and high heat resistance characteristics compared to silicon. Until now, there have been attempts to apply GaN as a packaging technology, but Lucid Microsystems has maximized its performance by integrating GaN in semiconductors. Lucid Microsystems predicts that GaN power semiconductors will enable efficient AI server voltage and heat management.
