From time to time it's good to take a critical look at everyday places and how they are designed. They tend to be shaped by the culture and time in which they are built, sometimes including the shortcomings or otherwise outdated ideas of that time. A theater, for example, often follows similar design principles, but are the spaces really accessible to everyone? As I perceive it, many have been designed with a dash of white normativity and internalized ableism. Remember our post about the "Art Across Borders" project? It's a fantastic example of how collaboration can push artistic boundaries. But the world of art is brimming with even more inspiring stories! 🌿The PARK(ing) Project: Project for Public Spaces Imagine a city street transformed into a temporary park! This incredible project brings together architects, designers, and artists to create playful, thought-provoking installations in parking spaces. 🎤The Mile Long Opera: This ambitious project takes "collaboration" to a whole new level! Over 1,000 singers come together to perform a massive, geographically dispersed opera. These are just a few examples of the incredible things that can happen when artists join forces. Collaboration pushes boundaries, fosters new ideas, and ultimately enriches the art world. 80% of art galleries are not proper art galleries. Why would I even say that? And where did I get the number? I bring it up because when the substitute we settle for passes as a gallery, there’s a community-wide lowering of standards that hurts artists and devalues the ecosystem. Managing a gallery is a massive marketing operation involving PR, promotion, negotiation, very low risk aversion, a deep knowledge of the art market, and deep contacts in both the curators and collectors sides. Beyond injecting millions into the local economy, a proper local art market will create a destination, bring curators and collectors, be a window for the town in the world’s top art market platforms, think Venice, Miami, Basel… So let’s stop pandering to half-baked “art gallery” concepts and go talk to a few good curators who can help set up a proper local art market. Start small, then grow. Become an instant hit gradually, then suddenly 😉

As we are getting more enquiries about the 48V track system, we thought we share some knowledge with you to help you specify confidently. Here are the 3 most important things you need to know why a low voltage lighting system might be good for your project: - The track is a lot slimmer than the traditional track system, making it look extra slick - It produces a lot less heat, so it is great for museums, art galleries and places with precious art - It can take emergency lighting module, too The 48V track can co-exist with a normal LED installation, so you can have just a section in your project, or the entire project can be low voltage. As someone who spent over a decade in live events and often wondered 'who *%#^ designed this?' The chance to work on event spaces is deeply meaningful to me. Hopefully I can help the next batch of live event folks have spaces that are magical for attendees, designed with production in mind, and revenue generating for owners. So, people looking for event space in Eastern Washington with easy parking that's well connected to city core, Wenatchee Convention Center should be on your list. It is a great Stantec team, with Tara Damschen on Acoustics and Norm Lanum, RCDD on Technology. Want to take your Convention Center or event space to the next level? You _need_ Tara, because without quality acoustics, you're doomed. You don't always need 3D modeling with VR aural walkthroughs, but you do need acousticians to ensure spaces are going to meet your needs. Trying to solve it after the fact with technology, even AI is expensive, not sustainable and operationally risky. (Norm and I helped too.) Our partnership ALSC Architects has been wonderful. Great use of schedule, and meaningful collaboration.
