The first volume of the Space Sustainability Strategy released by NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration yesterday is more welcomed planning for the increasingly busy orbits around the Earth and beyond. In the document, the overarching goals of NASA are to, "maintain the conduct of space activities indefinitely into the future in a manner that is safe, peaceful, and responsible to meet the needs of the present generations while preserving the outer space environment for future activities and limiting harm to terrestrial life." Lofty goals for certain but it is imperative that the United States and the rest of the world's space powers continue to frame the problem set and cooperatively strategize accordingly. I imagine many of my connections, especially those who work in technology, appreciate a good "space" story when they read one. I am so impressed by the team at NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration who continue to keep the 47 year old Voyager 1 spacecraft alive. When we talk about space telescopes, people usually think Hubble or more recently James Webb. But today let's talk about another one that is famous in the scientific world but less known by the public : NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration Chandra X-ray. As today he's 25 years old, he gave us 25 new stunning images (see the link below to check them full size and download them). Chandra X-ray is the most powerful x-ray telescope. He was launched on 23/07/1999 on Columbia Space Shuttle during STS-93 mission (with the french astronaut Michel Tognini as mission specialist). This telescope is part of the "great observatories program" with Hubble, Spitzer and Compton (I may or may not make a post about those 2 last in the future). The orbit of Chandra is quite unique compared to the other telescopes from the program. While the other are in LEO (Low Earth Orbit), Chandra's orbit is very elliptic with a perigee at 10 000 km and an apogee at 140 000 km. Gravitational Waves have very little scientific value because it's just a result of perturbations in space, atmospheric air and ocean's water caused by moving/accelerating celestial bodies. It can't describe nor explain the real nature of Gravity. And we don't need a million-dollar Gravitational Wave Detectors such as LIGO to detect Gravitational Waves on Earth because Gravity is everywhere (not only in space), ubiquitous throughout the entire observable Universe. We can detect Gravitational Waves in the atmosphere and in the ocean's water using only our naked eyes, still/video cameras and seismometers or even microphones in the case of ocean gravitational waves generating sound energy. BAE Systems and strategic partners L3Harris Technologies and the Space Telescope Science Institute (STScI) have been selected as one of three teams to mature technologies in support of NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration's Habitable Worlds Observatory (HWO) mission concept. HWO will be designed to seek out signs of life beyond our solar system and conduct transformational observations of the universe. Its goal is to identify and examine a promising sample of Earth-like planets orbiting other stars to determine if they could show signs of hosting life.
