This publication issued by RINA and updated to December 2023, contains a summary of the mandatory requirements adopted by IMO (e.g., amendments to SOLAS, MARPOL, and other IMO conventions and codes) up to and including those adopted in July 2023 at MEPC 80, entering into force between 2022 and 2030, listed in chronological order with respect to their application date. Adopted mandatory instruments for which dates of entry into force have yet to be established have also been included. Reference to the previous editions of this publication should be made for mandatory requirements that entered into force prior to 1 January 2022. Three different indexes have been inserted to help readers better identify the requirements of interest to them: 1. a chronological index with respect to the application date of the requirements; 2. an alphabetical index with respect to the IMO mandatory instruments; and 3. a ship-type index, for new and existing ships respectively, showing the requirements applicable to each ship type at a given date. If I earn a pound for each time I was asked: “Are we ensuring our cadets are well-prepared for the technological shifts ahead in maritime sector?” In charting the course for the future of cadetship programs in the marine industry, it's imperative that we stay attuned to emerging trends and developments .But simple question is are we doing enough? As the maritime landscape evolves, so should our cadetship programs. It's essential that we integrate training in cutting-edge technologies like automation, artificial intelligence, and data analytics. Cadets must be adept at operating and maintaining the increasingly sophisticated equipment and systems shaping our industry. The digital transformation sweeping through the maritime sector underscores the need for adaptability in our programs. We must equip our future leaders with the skills to leverage digital platforms for navigation, communication, and operations, including proficiency in remote monitoring and incoming systems for predictive maintenance. In the face of mounting environmental concerns, sustainability takes canter stage in marine sector. Our cadetship programs must incorporate advanced training in green technologies and emission reduction strategies, ensuring compliance with evolving regulations such as IMO 2020 and forthcoming carbon reduction initiatives. Now it’s time to start familiarise them with it. Beyond traditional maritime skills, we are expecting that cadets must cultivate a diverse skill set to meet the multifaceted demands of the industry. Proficiency in areas such as cybersecurity, risk management, and crisis response is paramount in navigating the complexities of modern maritime operations but simply it seems we haven’t implemented them enough in cadetship trainings. As we are global industry , it is our job to prepare cadets for global careers, prioritizing cultural awareness, language proficiency, and exposure to diverse regulatory frameworks. Looking beyond initial training is answer , commitment to fostering long-term career development is goal we need to achieve. This entails structured pathways, mentorship initiatives, and opportunities for specialization in fields like maritime law which we often put a side and just touch on the basics.Our vision must extend beyond mere seamanship – let’s not forget we're shaping future maritime leaders . As we chart a course toward the future, innovation and adaptability are our guiding stars. Concluding the first week of intense contribution and learning for the decarbonization of the maritime shipping at International Maritime Organization.

This online session on Climate Change was quite interesting as we were allocated to a group of three for focus group discussions. As an enthusiast on Climate Change, politics, and digital governance policies, I was discussing a critical question on climate change within our focus group discussions, that is, "How can we integrate Digital Technology into the Early Warning Systems to mitigate the brutal impact of Climate Change-induced natural disasters like tsunami?" I'm quite concerned about Submarine Landslides due to prolonged Rainy Seasons which can lead to Tsunami as is the case of Aitape Tsunami in East Sepik Province of Papua New Guinea that engulfed Aitape Town and resulted in more than 2000+ casualties. Coastal urban towns and cities could suffer the same fate in that Early Warning Systems harnessing digital technology could help prevent the loss of lives in the event of a Climate Change-induced natural disasters like a Tsunami triggered by Submarine Landslides due to prolonged Rainy Seasons.
