What we do is we, we go through a school year. We survive. We say who, okay, I'm glad that's over. We do all this stuff in the summer, only to repeat the same mistakes, only to face the same problems, only to to keep banging our heads against the same wall. How long are we going to do that? Isn't it time that we tried something different, but we never ever learn from the past? We just keep moving forward, as if last school year didn't happen. It did. And there's a lot of gold in last school year. There's a lot that you can learn. Discover how to design an incredible next year #LikeABuilder: https://lnkd.in/eaNejkZh #SchoolLeadership #EducationalLeadership #PrincipalLife #AssistantPrincipal #SchoolImprovement #EducationMatters #InnovativeLeadership #K12Education #FutureOfEducation #SchoolLeader #Principal #SchoolPrincipal #ProfessionalDevelopment #LikeABuilder

One of the things that I'm noticing is happening to a lot of the builders I support is that your confidence is under attack. You have a vision right now. You're in the honeymoon period of your vision. You've announced it. You've re anchored in it. Everybody's excited. You have had a successful reopening, people are excited to be back. The work is before them, but somewhere around the end of September, beginning of October, you have what I start calling the October surprise, and it can be a real blow to your confidence, because the initial excitement at the beginning of the school year always, always wears off, and we all know that, and yet we never are prepared for it when it happens, and we start taking it personally, and we start to see our own confidence crumble. So one of the things that I want to encourage you to do right now is to find some people who can help you, protect your confidence. Find out what 4 things you need to do in the next 4-6 weeks in order to create powerful momentum for the entire year #LikeABuilder: https://lnkd.in/eGZ5ACqd #SchoolLeadership #EducationalLeadership #PrincipalLife #AssistantPrincipal #SchoolImprovement #EducationMatters #InnovativeLeadership #K12Education #FutureOfEducation #SchoolLeader #Principal #SchoolPrincipal #ProfessionalDevelopment #LikeABuilder #StaffAlignment #Alignedstaff

SMALL WINS = HUGE GAINS I am leading high school summer school. The students that are here with me have failed at least one high school course. Yesterday, I went over expectations with students regarding their academic performance and their behavior. Today, as I was standing outside greeting students as they entered the building, a boy with a disappointed look on his face walked up to me. Student: Mrs. Ross, I'm sorry that I'm late today. I looked at him sternly, with grace in my eyes. Me: Do better tomorrow. Get in there and reach your daily goals. Have a great day. He smiled at me and walked into the building with confidence. Shortly after, a student riding a bike to school waved at me through a crowd of students as he slowed to park his bike. I returned the greeting. To me, these moments are priceless. Takeaways: 1. Building relationships is a foundational piece in creating the climate and culture that you desire. 2. One of the most important components of transforming school culture is setting and communicating expectations. Now, couple expectations with consistency and follow through, and you've got a recipe for success! #CultureAndClimate #RelationshipBuilding #TransformationalLeadership #StudentSuccess #Wins #Winning #SetTheStandard #RaiseTheBar. #AllKidsAreCapable

You know, good enough is a trap. It makes you satisfied with something less than you're capable of. It makes you settle in before you reach your goal. Good enough is not good enough for you. You are capable of so much more. You don't have any idea the difference you could make in the lives of all the kids in your school. You have just scratched the surface. You're just getting started. And although in the past, your training has led you to believe that good enough is good enough, it isn't enough for you. And it isn't enough for the kids that good enough leaves behind. If you’ve gotten a little too comfortable lately, my goal is to give you the boost you need to stick to your goals #LikeABuilder: https://lnkd.in/gu_E_jfG #SchoolLeadership #EducationalLeadership #PrincipalLife #AssistantPrincipal #SchoolImprovement #EducationMatters #InnovativeLeadership #K12Education #FutureOfEducation #SchoolLeader #Principal #SchoolPrincipal #ProfessionalDevelopment #LikeABuilder #StaffAlignment #Alignedstaff

The Challenges of Summer Learning Loss Summer vacation is often seen as a time for students to relax and recharge away from the rigors of the school year. However, this break can also lead to a phenomenon known as the “summer slide,” where students lose academic skills and knowledge acquired during the year. In today's video, we'll discuss strategies that mitigate summer learning loss. #EducationalLeader, Kim “When students are led well, they learn well.” The views shared in the Educational Leadership Moment are solely mine and do not reflect the positions of my employer or any entity within the local, state, or federal government sectors. #Education #Leadership

International School Leader | Thought Partner | Innovative Thinker | Perpetual Learner | Strategic Visionary | Shaping Perspectives for Education's Future
School Leaders: Listen to your students! Just wrapped up a meaningful "listening session" with some of our fantastic 6th graders. I asked open-ended questions about their middle school journey, including transitions from elementary and newcomers' experiences. Here's what I gathered: 🌟 Day H is a crowd favorite! Students raved about the freedom to pursue passion projects, honing problem-solving skills, and more. Their key takeaway? Learning self-management, responsibility, and teamwork. 🌳 Outdoor Learning, a fresh addition to our middle school curriculum, earned high praise. It's described as a stress-reliever, instilling a love for nature and sustainability, and fostering a deep connection with the outdoors. 📝 Feedback is gold! Students value the opportunity to improve through feedback and retakes. As one student wisely put it, "It's all about learning and growing, not just a number!" 🎯 They shared insights on better preparing future middle schoolers. Suggestions include introducing test-taking strategies in Grade 5, gradually increasing homework expectations, and offering more support on platforms like Canvas. And the highlight of the day? "We feel like we belong here!" - A heartwarming affirmation of our school community. #StudentVoice #ListenAndLearn #MiddleSchoolJourney Frankfurt International School, Christina Bachl, Donny Hansen, Gioia Morasch, Lori Nolte
