This month, we are celebrating our Purpose at Zoetis. I’m constantly reminded of how our R&D organization leans into our purpose – nurturing the world and humankind by advancing care for animals – every day whether exploring new targets, mining our vast databases, or collaborating with each other and external stakeholders to progress our portfolio. This summer, our R&D organization includes several dozen interns, and I recently had the opportunity to connect with them to hear about their work embedded in different teams across our organization from mechanistic biology and analytical chemistry & supply to bioprocess and product sciences to communications and global biologics research. Our R&D interns’ thoughtful questions were informed by current topics in science, and I shared my advice with them, while also taking away learnings from their perspectives. First, collaboration and knowledge sharing amongst team members is crucial for us to collectively advance our innovative products and help each other grow as scientists and leaders. And, with misinformation on the rise, it is more crucial than ever that we stay curious, ask questions, be open to changing our perspective and be willing to learn – and share those learnings with our teams. Next, we discussed balancing work and life – I believe it is important to be true to yourself and what you need to feel fulfilled in both aspects. Finally, it should be no surprise that we discussed artificial intelligence. AI represents exciting and important tools, that we are widely embracing to make our R&D processes more efficient and effective; however, there will always be a critical need for human ingenuity, intuition and critical thinking that we as scientists bring to the innovation process. There is no doubt in my mind that the future of science is bright thanks to our purpose-driven colleagues, complemented this summer, by our interns’ fresh takes and firm grasp of new technologies. During my internship at Pinnacle, I focused on predicting heart disease. The analysis was tough, but I learned a lot. I analyzed each column deeply to understand it, and working on the Exploratory Data Analysis (EDA) was the best part for me. 🌟 Exciting Update! 🌟 I am thrilled to announce that I have successfully completed the third project during my internship at MeriSKILL, focusing on diabetes prediction. 📊💉 Key Points of the Project: 1️⃣ Leveraged advanced machine learning algorithms such as LogisticRegression, RandomForestClassifier and DecisionTreeClassifier to analyze data and predict the likelihood of diabetes in individuals. 2️⃣ Developed a predictive model with accuracy above 70%. This will help in early detection and prevention of diabetes. 3️⃣ Gained invaluable hands-on experience in working on real-world healthcare data and applying data science techniques to make a positive impact. A moment to cherish with two of our recent Data Science interns from Novartis Early Hire Program, Tess A Sebi and Helen C S. They completed their internship this Friday and returned to their college for the final chapter of their master's degree. Over the past six months, I've had the privilege of learning a great deal from Tess and Helen, spanning topics such as Large Language Models, Prompt Engineering, Applicant Tracking Systems, and Data Visualization using GenAI. What's interesting is that they weren't part of my team, yet as an early bird at work, I always made it a point to engage with them in our work bay to understand their ways of working, aspirations and their experiments with GenAI. As a communications leader navigating the global business services and solutions landscape, they represent a vital segment of my audience. Thank you, Helen and Tess, for the enriching conversations.
