In 1997 in the NYPD COMPSTAT College Executive Development class I attended it was suggested that the City expand the Emergency Medical Response system by incentivizing the EMT/Paramedic profession as a stepping stone for 18-22 year olds towards continued Civil Service in other agencies. The thought behind the proposal was that If you want to address violence in society then we need people to care for themselves and others by teaching the young adults the first aid/cpr skills necessary to meaningfully assist in crisis and times of emergency while providing financial stability. Teach young civilians how to become Emergency responders and caregivers. Teach young adults how to care for others while paying them to do it. Make 5 years EMS service a job prerequisite for all Civil Service jobs . Of course the time at EMS would count towards pension. Perhaps local governments should collaborate and In conjunction with local EMS/Paramedic agencies, they should endeavor to increase CPR/First Aid certification training to school age children (High School) , local community groups and church congregations. If they, the kids are worth a minimum of $120k to effect an arrest and house in jail every year, it seems economically sensible to alter the dynamic by paying the kids $52K a year directly for EMT/Paramedic skills and services that the City/State trains them for. The difference would be in the level of commitment. It's cheaper to give kids employment and train them to be EMT's than to lock them up for 26-40 months awaiting trial even for the most minor of nonviolent offenses such as Petit Larceny/Grand Larceny at a cost of more than 250K per non convicted detainee. The Entitlement perception should fade with medical first responder experience. Unfortunately the more horrific the disaster scene the faster they've will mature. Hire 3000-4000 18 year old NYC HS Grads For 5 years Give them A steady paycheck with a living wage earned in the real world as an EMT actually contributing to helping people on a daily basis would be a monumental. Emphasize the positive Of course it will take 5-7 years to break that Gangsta lifestyle cycle and replace it With the civil service dynamic.

Possibly more than any other #nursing specialty, #correctionalnursing practice is lawsuit-prone. The patient population, already in the criminal justice system, frequently seeks legal action when they feel they have not received rightful #healthcare. Correctional #nurses must be acutely aware of #malpractice and #negligence concerns and specific constitutional and civil rights issues related to the incarcerated patient. #health #nurse #CE #CNE #continuingeducation Click here: https://lnkd.in/gq5T4v-s

🔍🏫 A Head-Scratcher: Understanding New Companies' 'Inadequate' Ofsted Ratings 🏫🔍 I'm genuinely puzzled. How is it possible for new businesses to get an 'Inadequate' rating on their first Ofsted visit? With new companies especially you have had ample time to set up everything meticulously, right? ✅ All policies and procedures in place, signed off and understood by the staff. ✅ Recording and reporting systems ready to ensure swift and clear action in case of incidents. ✅ Essential face-to-face training: Safeguarding, First Aid, Physical Intervention - the works. ✅ Perhaps even a self-employed Therapist for therapeutic care if needed. ✅ And don't forget the monthly REG 44 independent visitor. So why is this happening? You can't just get a half-decent RI and RM to help you gain registration - you're meant to plan the care you will provide. It's not a joke, this is meant to be a commitment to safeguarding and caring for vulnerable children. I strongly believe there needs to be a deeper dive into the validation process. What would happen if Ofsted stopped people working in this sector because they had no intention of working in the home - they were given a couple of grand so that a company could use their name for registering. I don't know what the word is to use for this, I know its not fraud but in a way they are fraudsters. Helping homes open with no intention of staying and fulfilling their role. Now I understand there can be many reasons that people leave, so this doesn't apply to everyone who de-registers quickly. But ultimately when this happens the young people suffer further. Many of our young people who have been in care for several years know the system very well, and what this means is they also know the rules - some kids will tell YOU what you can and can't do. Step out of line and they notice, and then this confirms that you aren't caring for them properly. Let's discuss this together. How do you think Ofsted assessments could assess the true quality of care that will be provided -PRIOR to Registering a home? #Ofsted #ChildCare #SafetyMatters #RegulatoryStandards #QualityCare

Eighty percent of trafficked persons have reported going to a healthcare provider while in captivity. As healthcare providers, we must report the abuse of minors and support those dangers. If you are in Texas, you are required to take human trafficking training every 2 years. Several other states, including Michigan, also have a training requirement. Take just a couple of hours of your time and learn the clinical signs, know how to screen, and how to follow through with a report. A small amount of your time and attention could equate to saving someone’s life. The Courage to Speak Up: Transforming Challenges into Safer Healthcare A recent harrowing incident at Blackpool Victoria Hospital has underscored the vital importance of vigilance and integrity in healthcare. Nurses Catherine Hudson and Charlotte Wilmot engaged in reprehensible conduct, compromising patient safety for their convenience. This incident, while deeply disturbing, also highlights the crucial role of speaking up against wrongdoing. The student nurse who reported the misconduct displayed extraordinary courage and ethical fortitude. In an environment where hierarchy often silences voices, this act of bravery not only prevented further harm but also served as a beacon of integrity in our profession. This case is a stark reminder that patient safety is paramount and must be guarded against any form of compromise. As healthcare professionals, our duty extends beyond treatment to ensuring a safe and respectful environment for all patients. We must foster a culture where speaking up is not only encouraged but expected. This means supporting those who raise concerns, irrespective of their position. Institutions like Cleveland Clinic London are leading the way in creating such cultures. Let's take a moment to commend the bravery of the student nurse who stepped up. Their actions exemplify the kind of ethical responsibility that is the backbone of quality healthcare. As we reflect on this incident, let us recommit ourselves to uphold the highest standards of patient care and to support those who speak up for the vulnerable. The safety of our patients and the integrity of our profession depend on it. #HealthcareEthics #PatientSafety #SpeakUp #leadership https://lnkd.in/eW_Fj9dm

Well done that courageous student nurse for speaking out. Well done Blackpool Victoria hospital leaders for hearing and responding. Health and social care needs more courageous people who are prepared to put their heads above the parapet by speaking up and more leaders (and regulators) who are sufficiently courageous to listen and act in the best interests of those they serve.
