Yet another great step forward for the project
Carbon Capture and Storage, while not the only solution has an increasingly great importance in the UKs goal to reach #netzero
Today’s Government announcement marks another significant step forward for carbon capture projects like Viking CCS and The Acorn Project.
We look forward to building on this positive momentum to deliver greater clarity on investment across the #CCS value chain in #Track2 with both the anchor projects and the #Viking CCS network.

“There is no credible pathway toward net zero without deploying carbon capture and sequestration (CCS) at scale,” said Gavin Rennick, president of SLB’s New Energy business. “In the next few decades, many industries that are crucial to our modern world must rapidly adopt CCS to decarbonize."
Aker Carbon Capture and SLB announced today that they have completed their transaction for a joint venture which combines SLB's carbon capture operations with Aker's. Together, the new company will have seven technology installations in progress that have the capacity to capture up to 1 million tonnes of CO2 emissions per year. The new company will have both amine-based carbon capture technologies as well as non-aqueous solvent and emerging sorbent-based offerings.

CRC’s recent merger with Aera Energy expands our leading carbon management business, Carbon TerraVault, through the addition of surface acreage and rights and significant new carbon dioxide pore space to enable future CCS development. This collaboration promotes the decarbonization of California’s industrial and energy industries and will help the Golden State meet its ambitious climate goals. #CRC#CTV#CAEnergyFuture
Our #VikingCCS project is uniquely placed to help the UK decarbonise and grow by providing a gateway for investment and the development of a regional low-carbon hub.
Our project plans to store 10 million tonnes of CO2 a year by 2030 and 15 million tonnes a year by 2035 which would meet up to 1/3 of the UK's CCS target.

Follow ExxonMobil Low Carbon Solutions to learn how we are leveraging our subsurface expertise to decarbonize our own operations and help the other industries in #gulfcoast to decarbonize their own. #bluehydrogen coupled with #ccs Carbon Capture And Storage and biofuels will support energy transition.
Drawing upon our deep knowledge of the subsurface, the 2027-2028 proposed expansion of our facility in Baytown would allow it to act as a hub for #CCS and low-emissions #BlueHydrogen fuel for industries throughout the entire US Gulf Coast.
In this three-part series, we’ll speak with some of the key figures involved in that expansion. They’ll discuss what excites them about the project, what it could do for ExxonMobil and what that could mean for potential customers looking to reduce their emissions.
In part two, we talk to Carl Fortin#ExxonMobil’s Global Business Manager for Carbon Capture and Storage, who details this game-changing vision for the region.
Watch now to learn more about what ExxonMobil Low Carbon Solutions can do.

Exciting developments are unfolding for the North and the sustainable energy sector, courtesy of enfinium.
Sean A. Business Development Lead and Founder at Shoal responded to the news: "In the current industry landscape, a significant surge in growth and project development is evident, particularly in the North. This growth is propelled by the revitalisation of current power plants and a growing demand for clean, dependable energy sources.
Carbon capture and storage (CCS) technologies play a pivotal role in combating climate change by mitigating carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions".
The core principle of CCS involves capturing CO2 generated during the combustion of fossil fuels, preventing its release into the atmosphere. enfinium's initiative aims to annually capture around 1.2 million tonnes of CO2, with over 600,000 tonnes constituting durable, high-quality carbon removals.
He writes "This strategic move aligns seamlessly with the broader objective of establishing a more sustainable and resilient energy infrastructure. Notably, over half of the UK's electricity consumption last year derived from zero-carbon sources, with a significant portion originating from local production in the North.
enfinium's commitment mirrors the industry-wide shift towards cleaner, decentralized energy solutions, contributing to the overall sustainability of the region and beyond.
Moreover, enfinium has highlighted that with CCS implementation, their site is poised to become one of Europe's largest carbon removal projects, supporting over 200 jobs across the supply chain during the development phase.
At Shoal, we proudly position ourselves at the forefront of this industry transformation, actively supporting major projects and collaborating with partners engaged in the design, construction, and operation of these groundbreaking initiatives.
Looking ahead to 2023/2024, our overarching goals revolve around growth, innovation, and the continuous delivery of our high-quality services within the renewable sector. Through our experienced team, we will remain dedicated to creating safe working environments, contributing to our partners' success, and championing positive change in the industries we serve".

The global #carboncapture and storage project pipeline has increased by 102% year-on-year.
It amounts to 392 #CCS projects today --> impressive numbers coming out of the #GlobalCCS23 report by the Global CCS Institute.
That's mostly plans, though. Since the 2022 report, 11 new facilities commenced operations and 15 new projects started construction.
We need more deployment, sooner.
