How to start a conversation with someone you are concerned about. "I noticed you have not been yourself lately, are you ok?" ... then stop and listen. Join our community and share your thoughts and stories. Your voice matters.
I had a truly heartfelt, tough, but inspiring conversation with Jennifer Weis about the work being done as part of the #MissionSaveALife project. One of the topics was how to see the warning signs that someone is going through a crisis and how to be there for them in the moment. Take care of yourselves and one another. #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth

As first responders we need to reflect on the good that we do in our communities, not to boost our egos but to help heal the trauma we endure over a career. It will better equip us to deal with the disquieting memories when they come. Good leaders have to be the example in this and show their people how to heal. Help your people to reflect on the differences they’ve made to bolster their self worth and overcome the times when tragedy can’t be avoided.
𝑭𝙧𝒐𝙢 𝙇𝒊𝙛𝒆 𝑺𝙖𝒗𝙚𝒅 𝒕𝙤 𝙇𝒊𝙛𝒆𝙡𝒐𝙣𝒈 𝑩𝙤𝒏𝙙𝒔. A simple question of “do you remember me?” made this morning’s Swearing-In Ceremony of Deputy Fire Chief Stephen Shaw even more special. Planning and Zoning employee Michael Schneider recognized Stephen right away as the man who saved his life over a decade ago and approached him after the ceremony for a heartfelt reunion. When Michael asked Stephen if he recognized him, Stephen's expression said it all. The two met on September 23, 2013 - a day Michael now views as his second birthday - when Michael was hit by a car on the Florida Turnpike in south Broward County. Stephen, who was off duty at the time, witnessed the accident, pulled out the trauma bag he kept in his vehicle at all times and got to work. As Stephen approached, he saw that Michael wasn't breathing and his pulse was weak. He quickly began performing CPR, reviving Michael. Michael was airlifted to Broward Health North and miraculously survived, in large part due to Stephen’s quick response. This morning, the two embraced as if they were lifelong friends, their relationship established because of Stephen’s heroic actions. It was a tearful, happy exchange as the two realized they were brought together to work in the same organization, serving the same community. It’s obvious that the two will become much more than co-workers as they work together in this special Town, continuing with the tradition of being “Uniquely Jupiter.” #BeaconOfExcellence #JupiterFireRescue #CommunityHeroes #JFRD #TownOfJupiter #BeginningFromExcellence

🔥 Introducing Chester: Our Newest Facility Dog Bringing Comfort to Firefighters! 🔥 🐾 As part of our commitment to community support and mental wellness, I’m thrilled to share that Canines 4 Comfort has taken a bold step into uncharted territory: partnering with firefighters! Meet Chester, our remarkable facility dog who’s making a difference in the lives of these brave heroes. 👨🚒 Why Firefighters? Firefighters face unimaginable challenges daily—rushing into burning buildings, rescuing lives, and witnessing trauma. But what happens when they return to the station, exhausted and emotionally drained? Chester steps in. His wagging tail and soothing presence provide a sense of normalcy, a moment of respite amidst the chaos. 🐶 Chester’s Role: Chester isn’t just any dog; he’s a highly trained therapy dog. Unlike service dogs, who perform specific tasks for individuals, Chester’s mission is broader. He offers comfort, reduces anxiety, and promotes mental well-being. Whether it’s a tough day at the firehouse or a critical incident scene, Chester is there, tail thumping, ready to lend his furry support. 🙌 The Impact: Research shows that therapy dogs boost serotonin levels, reduce anxiety, and combat loneliness. Chester’s presence at firehouses brings solace, reminding our heroes that they’re not alone in their struggles. 📖 Read More: Curious about Chester’s journey? Dive into our latest article, where we share heartwarming stories, behind-the-scenes moments, and the magic of paws on duty. 1 🐾 Let’s celebrate Chester’s arrival and honor our firefighters—the unsung heroes who keep our communities safe.
