Tonight we will be lit up blue and green as we join people around the globe to mark World Neurofibromatosis (NF) Awareness Day. Neurofibromatosis, a genetic disorder that affects 1 in every 3,000 people worldwide, causes tumors to grow on nerve pathways anywhere in the body, leading to potential complications such as blindness, deafness, bone abnormalities, disabling pain, and even cancer. This cause is particularly close to our hearts. Our signature Wine & Gold Bow Tie pins symbolize our REG family’s fight against NF, a battle that deeply affected Nick Gilbert, the son of our Chairman Dan Gilbert and his wife Jennifer. Nick, who became a beloved figure when he represented the Cavaliers at the 2011 NBA Draft Lottery with his signature bow tie, bravely fought NF1 for years before his untimely passing last year. His legacy of perseverance and joy continues to inspire us all.

The sight of King Charles resuming some royal duties, is both comforting and encouraging. It must serve as a ray of light that you can fight against the attack that is cancer. The dreaded big C. I have said before that the King's decision to publicly share his personal diagnosis of cancer is so very beneficial for the public and deeply considerate. The greater awareness it will bring to early detection and treatment of the disease cannot be underestimated, and of course, there will be wider positive knock-on effects too. In my line of work, I have found that when people are diagnosed with a serious illness, like cancer, this naturally leads them to consider not just making a Will, but also to make Lasting Powers of Attorney. Lasting Powers of Attorney allow you to plan ahead by enabling you to give someone you trust the legal authority to make decisions for you and on your behalf should you ever lack mental capacity. There has been an increase in the number of people enquiring about Lasting Powers of Attorney since the pandemic, unsurprisingly: - From adult children making enquiries for their parents; or - Individuals coming to an awareness of the benefits of Lasting Powers of Attorney and wanting to know more. Whatever the reason, Lasting Powers of Attorney should definitely be part of your armoury if getting your affairs in order are a priority for you, regardless of whether you have been diagnosed with a serious illness or not. If you've been considering them and are keen to know what's involved - from how they are made to how they are registered and crucially, why they are so important - we should have a chat. Send me a message or comment below if you want to know more. #LPA #POA #PowerOfAttorney #LastingPowerOfAttorney BBC article: King Charles shares 'shock' of cancer diagnosis with patients https://lnkd.in/gBR5JJuS

Early detection is important. Know your numbers ... not only in business - but in your own life.
My family celebrate what would have been my sister Katrina Cunnane’s 38th birthday today. ‘Trina left us aged 35, having fought cancer with every ounce of energy she had for several years. Katrina took every opportunity to get the message out, and now on her behalf I try to do the same. If you’ve avoided following up on a cancer or health screening, use today to book it. Ask the people close to you if they’re up to date. It’s uncomfortable, but it’s worthwhile. A fighter through to her very last day on earth, a joker throughout the darkest of times, a beautiful and caring sister, auntie, daughter and friend. ‘Trina, what I wouldn’t give to spend today with you. All my love xo.

Four percent of Heisman trophy winners died of CTE, and the list of their wounded fellow winners is growing. If you extrapolate those numbers to the 25,000 former NFL players, over 1,000 of them are probably carrying the CTE markers. Three-quarters of 1,035 brains of football players, 0ver 700, examined at Boston University had CTE. #brainhealth #braininjured #braininjury #brainwound #concussion #ConcussioninSport #concussionprotocol #ConcussionSymptoms #concussiontreatment #CTE #HBOT #HBOTTreatment #HeadImpact #HealingwithHyperbarics #hyperbaric #HyperbaricOxygentherapy #PostconcussionSyndrome #TBI #TBItreatment #traumaticbraininjury

Cancer: An Impact Beyond the Patient and a Journey in Search of Hope. In our journey with cancer, I've learned that this disease doesn't just affect the individual diagnosed with it; it deeply impacts the entire family. I vividly remember the painful moment in 2019 when we learned of my mother's diagnosis with rectal cancer. The shock, worry, and sorrow didn't just affect her; it had a significant psychological impact on us, her family. Time was a significant factor in our challenge. This led to searching for various medical opinions and being forced to make difficult decisions as part of our journey. I remember reaching out to several of my Saudi colleagues from different medical regions. All of them provided us with the same medical opinion. But cancer's impact did not end there; this year brought an even more profound challenge when my father was diagnosed with liver cancer. Despite my struggles and hopes, his heartbreaking loss deeply affected our family life and left an irreplaceable void. His memory continues to inspire my journey and strengthens my resolve in the fight against this disease. In my quest to understand this disease and find potential treatments, I made sure to attend conferences and lectures related to cancer to stay informed about the latest developments in treatment. Moreover, I connected with many researchers specializing in cancer, and the collaboration I received from officials at the Oxford University Botanic Garden, such as Chris Thorogood was noteworthy. He introduced me to several plants with medicinal properties that could contribute to the journey of finding a cure for cancer. Through this post, I want to emphasize the importance of scientific research and international cooperation in the fight against cancer. We need to continue our research to find effective and safe treatments. Let's support each other and share our experiences to face this challenge together. #Cancer #Health #Support #Awareness #scientificresearch

It is with a heavy heart that I share the news of my father's passing this night, after a brave battle with liver cancer. He was a remarkable man, whose strength, resilience, and kindness touched the lives of all who knew him. Throughout his struggle, he exemplified courage and grace, leaving us with memories that we will forever cherish. As we navigate through this difficult time, we find solace in the love and lessons he imparted on us. I kindly ask for your prayers for his soul. May he rest in peace and be granted eternal tranquility.
