I especially enjoy being able to spend time with my kids as I give to the community.” – Stella Becoming a Shared Living Provider with Riverside transformed the lives of Stella, her family, and individuals who became part of her family. Opening your home and your heart to an adult with a developmental disability, autism, or acquired brain injury can enrich your life, too. April is Autism and Neurodiversity Awareness and Acceptance Month, a time to celebrate the culture and diversity of Autistic and Neurodivergent communities and promote acceptance and understanding. Embracing autism and neurodiversity acceptance goes beyond acknowledging Autistic and Neurodivergent people. Acceptance is an action and starts with listening and respecting the rights and humanity of those living with autism and neurodivergent conditions. It means creating a culture that challenges the stereotypes and societal barriers that Autistic and Neurodivergent individuals face, building a culture of inclusion and understanding. We encourage you to learn more about how you can be an ally and what it means to embrace and practice acceptance. 👉 https://bit.ly/3U1Q8rY

It was exciting to hear Jac Fennell present recent research “The Power of a HUG” yesterday at the #UKDementiaCongress2023 in Birmingham. The presentation described the HUG by LAUGH collaboration with Aneurin Bevan University Health Board in which 500 HUGs were trialled with people living with a variety of challenges including dementia, learning disabilities, autism, mental health issues and children with anxiety. Often when we say’ ‘neurodiversity’, others assume we mean autism, and while autism is one type of neurodiversity, there are also many others, all with varied strengths and gifts. Know anyone with a different neurotypes to yours? This is the week to celebrate them! Why not ask about their experience and see what you can learn? #neurodiversity #alternativeeducation #neurodiversitycelebrationweek #neuroinclusion
