Big news! We are excited to announce that today we are launching the Richmond Promise Scholarship Fund! Providing annual scholarships to Richmond students has been the cornerstone of our programming since RP’s inception, and we want to continue to support Richmond students on their postsecondary journeys for years to come. While scholarships are just one aspect of the work we do at Richmond Promise, they are our greatest annual expense – making up a larger percentage of the RP budget than salaries, overhead, and program costs combined! RP Scholars can use scholarship funds ($1,500/year) to pay for tuition, books, housing, food, and other expenses related to their education. In order to scale and sustain our scholarship for years to come, we need to increase our fundraising efforts. Every dollar makes an impact, and all donations, no matter the size, will go directly to supporting students. Please visit the link below to contribute today! “Even with the extra funding next year, concerns remain about the rising tuition burdens on students, especially because Colorado students pay more on average than students at peer universities in other states.” The budget proposal includes funding for college/university operations and student financial aid. The proposal also includes a cap for tuition increases—up to 3% for in-state undergrads and no more than 4% for out-of-state undergrads. Making postsecondary education more affordable and accessible is necessary in prioritizing inclusive pathways for Colorado students. We work to keep college affordable. 👩🎓 👍 The average net tuition and fees across our schools decreased in the last decade. (That’s what families actually paid after aid). This October, the MREF’s Fall Fundraiser will once again support students in Haiti. ➡️ Why Haiti Many Haitian families struggle with the cost of education, including uniforms, textbooks, and transportation. Additionally, 48% of the population is undernourished, and access to clean water remains limited for much of the country. By donating to the Fall Fundraiser, you can help provide children with the resources they need – meals, education, and more – to thrive in and out of the classroom. ➡️ This year, the MREF’s fundraiser will focus on two key areas: 1. Food and water: In a country where only 65% of the population has access to basic water treatment services, access to clean water and food is vital for the health and development of students. 2. Curriculum: New books and curriculum are needed to ensure each student is equipped for success as they advance their studies. ⭐ Your contribution to the MREF’s Fall Fundraiser can directly impact the lives of students in Haiti. Together, we can support these students as they pursue education, grow as leaders, and build a brighter future for Haiti. Access to age-appropriate books at home is one of the strongest predictors of academic success for children—surpassing even parental education and socioeconomic status (Source: *Handbook of Early Literacy Research*). By donating, you can help put books into the hands of local children who need them most, giving them the tools they need for educational achievement. https://lnkd.in/gwzbwHs8

Our children's schools are in a state of disrepair, the meals they receive are substandard, and their teachers are under immense pressure. Meanwhile, the wealthiest in our society can afford to secure a brighter future for their children at the expense of ours. This is not just about education; it's about equality and justice. We propose that private schools should no longer be granted charitable status, which currently allows them to avoid paying certain taxes. Furthermore, we suggest imposing Value Added Tax (VAT) on private school tuition and boarding fees. The revenue generated from these changes could significantly improve the condition of state schools. According to a report by UCL Institute of Education (2018), private schools in England save up to £522m a year due to their charitable status while contributing only 6-7% towards total school enrolments nationwide. This imbalance needs rectification. The additional funds raised through these measures could be invested into our state schools - improving infrastructure, providing better meals for students, reducing teacher workload and ultimately enhancing the quality of education for all children irrespective of their socio-economic background. It's time we levelled the playing field so that every child gets an equal opportunity at success. Please sign this petition if you believe in fair access to quality education for all our children. https://lnkd.in/gPxzTZXe

Hey KY see what this does for education? Thanks to those who passed a school choice bill last year then had the courage to over ride its veto from KEA puppet Governor Andy Beshear, only to then have it deemed unconstitutional by KY Supreme Court. Directing your tax dollars to the school of your choice would drastically improve education. It may NOT benefit all schools but it would improve the quality of education as a whole. No one would stand for being told they have to go to a certain hair salon or mechanic because they live in a particular zip code or on a certain street, especially if those businesses weren't conducting business well. BUT we're fine with forcing families to thrust their children into local schools, regardless of how well they perform, how frequent the turnover, and what's being (or not) being taught. Interesting that the term Pro-choice doesn't apply to choosing your school. People think private school = wealthy people. I took a 32% decrease in pay going from classroom teacher to teacher and Head of School at a classical Christian school (& it was worth the sacrifice.) Most don't realize how much tuition assistance is given or written off by private schools to make room for families who need the help and how badly most private schools would like to make scholarships available for more students. All of this means the teachers get paid less and we educate students at a lower per pupil cost than public schools. So the idea that we just throw more money at public schools doesn't hold water. I have great friends who do great work in public schools. Let people choose public education if that's what they want but also give people the ability to choose other options without confiscating their taxes & applying them to public schools when they could be directed to a school of their choosing. The reality is teacher's unions know what happens when parents can decide where to send their own children... the free market will obliterate schools that underperform. And tenure disappears! Do the job well...keep your job, do your job poorly lose your job. I have seen the damage done by those untouchables that kick it up into neutral knowing that shy of molesting or assaulting a student, their job is secure. If it's really about ensuring all students having access to quality education, why eliminate quality options? Is it for the students or for the lobbyists guarding that which they've convinced people is the only option. Without the ability to apply tax dollars to a school of one's choosing, he/she is left to choose between Scylla and Charybdis. Forced to send your child to a public school because you don't have the money to do otherwise or make deep cuts to your budget and live differently to make it happen. KY needs to learn from states that are improving the quality and accessibility of education for those who desire it by permitting citizens to direct their tax dollars to schools of their choosing.
