Did you know sunflowers are more than just a pretty face in a field? 🌻 These vibrant flowers not only track the sun's movement during the day (a behavior called heliotropism), but they can also be used to clean up radioactive soil! 🌻🌍 In a process called phytoremediation, sunflowers absorb contaminants from the soil, offering a natural way to mitigate environmental damage. They're not just beautiful; they're nature's superheroes! 🌻💚 We can't wait for sunflower season on the farm! Trees are an amazing thing – they add beauty and value to yards, streets, communities and they take carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere and store it as carbon in the soil. BUT, #DYK that planting a tree in the wrong place can cause damage, become a detriment and will prevent the tree from growing properly and can even reduce biodiversity? As well, when a tree is planted in the right place – proper soil, moisture conditions, etc. – it will be more resilient to the conditions and live longer. When you are planting trees, here are a few tips: - Plant a native species - Research the type of soil needed - Find out if the tree needs a lot of moisture, a little, or can tolerate dry conditions - Does the tree need shade, partial sun or full sun? - How much space does the tree need to grow #SaskWater #CarbonStorage #CarbonSequestration #plantatree

Happy #EarthDay! One simple yet highly impactful thing you can do to support your local biodiversity is plant native. Start small by incorporating a few native plants into your landscape and grow from there: https://lnkd.in/eWVZYg53 Don't have the space to plant? No problem, start a pollinator pot to give bees and butterflies a stepping stone along their way: https://lnkd.in/ebhe7rh7 Why plant native? Florida native plants are adapted to thrive in our climate, conditions and soil. When regionally appropriate native plants are planted in the right places, they need less water and require no fertilizers or pesticides. This conserves water resources and keeps excess nutrients from polluting lakes, rivers and streams. They also provide vital habitat for bees, butterflies and other beneficial insects, as well as seeds, berries and insects for birds.

🌾🌸🌼 One flowery dam, two successful objectives! 🌾🌸🌼 In response to a request from our local residents to screen the view of our Pea factory, we came up with the idea of creating a vegetated earth embankment 💡. We wanted to make this space lively, colorful, and above all useful for nature! That's why we sowed it with flowering meadow seeds 🌺 as well as melliferous shrubs 🌿 at the top. 👉 The result: not only do we enjoy a pretty flowery bush, but it also helps to develop biodiversity and provide for the food needs of foraging insects, since we also practice late mowing there 💯✅. ... That's how we've managed to turn a visual obstacle into an ecological asset! Nice, isn't it? 🤗 #COSUCRA #BuildingOurFutureWithNature #Environment #Biodiversity

Spring is almost here, and with it comes the opportunity to help our pollinator friends. Pollinators are essential for our food security and biodiversity, but they are facing many threats, such as habitat loss, pesticides, and climate change. 💐 Here are some simple ways you can help pollinators this spring: - Plant native flowers and herbs that provide nectar and pollen for bees, butterflies, and other insects. 🌳 - Avoid using chemical pesticides and herbicides that can harm pollinators and their habitats. ✨ - Provide water sources for pollinators, such as a shallow dish with stones or a birdbath. 🌊 - Create or join a community garden or a pollinator-friendly initiative in your area. 💚 - Learn more about pollinators and share your knowledge with others. 🌿 Let's make this spring a pollinator-friendly season. Together, we can make a difference. 🌱 Honeybeeandco.uk #polinators #spring #ecoconscious #ecofriendly #smallbusinesssupport

"A small pine tree grown in a glass box reveals the level of white, finely branched mycorrhizal threads or "mycelium" that attach to roots and feed the plant." - David Read A view of what's needed to support a pine tree seedling. Sustainable and climate-wise gardeners protect the soil. This means: - minimal compression from big machinery - no poisons, because fungicides will inhibit mycorrhizae fungus that help plants gain moisture and nutrients from the soil. Soil sequesters 4 times more carbon than all the terrestrial plants--the rainforests, other forests, fields, and our yards. We must stop treating our precious soil like dirt! #SoilEcosystem

Only a dead tree is a good tree. 🌱 This is a provocative statement that I often use when talking about raised bogs. It may sound contradictory initially, but nature has its own rules here. Let me give you five reasons why trees are not supposed to be in raised bogs: 🌳 Trees extract water from the bog and increase greenhouse gas emissions. 🌳 draining the soil also leads to changes in the wetland-specific water-loving vegetation 🌳 Trees cast shade and displace light-loving peatland plants. 🌳 The leaves of trees, such as birch, also increase the nutrients in the water, leading to nutrient overload or eutrophication. 🌳 Last but not least, dead trees give the marshes their special mystical appearance ;) Who doesn't love those foggy mornings in the wetlands when dead trees look so eerie? 👻 #wetlands #conservation #trees

What is the process by which lake turnover occurs? Lake turnover is a seasonal process driven by temperature changes that mixes the water layers in a lake, crucial for maintaining a healthy ecosystem. In spring and fall, the surface water temperature becomes similar to the bottom layers, allowing the entire water column to mix. This mixing redistributes oxygen from the surface to the bottom and nutrients from the bottom to the surface, supporting aquatic life. In summer and winter, lakes become stratified with distinct thermal layers, but the turnover ensures periodic reoxygenation and nutrient cycling, vital for the lake's biodiversity and ecological balance. #lakeecology #seasonalprocesses #aquaticlife #EcosystemHealth #nutrientcycling #laketurnover #intriguing #reoxygenation #disrupted #stratification #watermixing #seasonalchanges #environmentalbalance www.tycoonstory.com
