Our healthcare system in the United States is broken in a lot of ways. Getting a cancer diagnosis shouldn't mean that you go into debt for the rest of your life. When you're trying to fight cancer, the last thing you should be worried about is whether or not you can afford it. This is why health equity is so important to me. When we tackle inequities, we see better patient outcomes. “Cancer survival rates over recent years have shown improvement across races and ethnicities, so by acknowledging and addressing barriers to care, further improvements toward equitable access, treatment, and outcomes can be realized for all,” says Lori Pierce. If we want to see even more positive change when it comes to cancer care, we have to see an embrace of health equity throughout all medical care. It's also important to note that we can't only focus on increasing accessibility to care... we have to also make sure that care is unbiased and that healthcare providers are aware of inequities that affect medical care overall. #CancerCare #HealthEquity #Healthcare #CancerPreventionMonth

I came across Teal Health on social media and it really caught my attention. The more I read about it, the more I thought, "Wow, this could be amazing." The FDA has given a Breakthrough Device Designation to Teal Health's Teal Wand, a game-changer for at-home cervical cancer screening. This device lets you easily and comfortably collect your own sample at home or in a clinic—no invasive exam needed! Here’s the scoop: the Teal Wand has shown some promising results in trials. 97% of women found it super easy to use, and most said they’d prefer this self-collection method over the traditional exam with a clinician. Plus, 87% said they'd be more likely to get screened if they could use the Teal Wand. That's huge, especially for making sure more women stay up-to-date with their screenings. This designation means Teal Health can fast-track the final stages of FDA review. It’s a big win for women's health! 📣Let's hear it for making health screenings more accessible and less daunting! What do you think about this new option? Would you give it a try? #WomensHealth #Innovation #TealHealth #TealWand #MedicalDevice #Healthcare #PatientCare #PatientSafety #Screenings #MedicalInnovation #FDA #BiohackingVillage #BHVConnect https://lnkd.in/e4qmnQiZ

We need to raise this conversation again and look to how we can solve for equity from the start - we have much to learn from what the data shows us and we must listen to what citizens tell us are the barriers to participation - can’t wait to share the full report
Participation & Access to prevention services really matters As discussed in our recent article for HSJ, better screening could help reduce the slide in cancer outcomes, that the UK is currently facing. However it is also important to tell the human story behind the stark statistics which materialize in our postcode lottery for cancer outcomes. Our team at Deloitte is hugely excited about finishing the final edits for an upcoming report, that will explore this in more detail. We look forward to making it available in the coming weeks. A big 'Thank You' to a team of dedicated professionals who all care about equity and ultimately saving lives: Francesca Lazar (nee Sanders), Becky Galea, Emilie Thompson, Michael Leyland, Dr Richard Ovens, Ali Milad, Indo Vickerson, Louis Mugerwa and of course our Chief Medical Officer Karen Kirkham and the wise guidance provided by our Chief Research Officer Karen Taylor.

March marks the American Association for Cancer Research #ColorectalCancerAwarenessMonth, emphasising the importance of early detection and prevention. #ColorectalCancer is a significant burden on healthcare systems like the NHS due to the high associated costs and long wait times for #colonoscopies. And, since many cases are diagnosed at late stages, the already poor prognoses can be exacerbated. So this month, we will be sharing our latest innovative #diagnostic solution to help clinicians and #healthcare workers #triage patients most in need of being referred to specialists for #ColonoscopyScreening. #ColorectalCancerAwarenessMonth2024 #EarlyDetection #ColorectalCancerAwareness https://lnkd.in/eV8pTSTb

The extreme barriers to entry faced by those looking to participate in clinical trials in Louisiana speaks volumes about the lack of access in this country. As PBS’ Roby Chavez highlights, fewer than 5 percent of adult patients with cancer enroll in a clinical trial and participants pay an average of $600 in indirect costs per month related to reaching a trial, a staggering $7,200 a year. Access starts with enabling more physicians to offer potentially life-saving clinical trials in places where patients can access them. This is exactly what we’re solving for at Topography Health by providing physicians with the end-to-end solutions that serve the entire patient journey, not just pieces of it. #clinicaltrials #clinicalresearch https://lnkd.in/dqzbZFu5

#NewResearch: Tackling cancer is a major priority for healthcare systems across the world. Early detection and diagnosis can significantly improve cancer outcomes and help enable patients to access timely treatment. This relies, in part, on the effectiveness and accuracy of diagnostic tests for cancer. An effective diagnostic test for cancer needs to do more than just be scientifically innovative (e.g. accurate). It needs to meet other patient needs (e.g. as they relate to accessibility, invasiveness) and health system needs (e.g. fit with healthcare staff skills, #NHS clinical workflows, facilities). Diagnostic Target Product Profiles (TPPs) are product specification documents which outline the requirements new diagnostic tests must meet. They are an important tool to identify the types of tests healthcare systems need. Whilst they are already used in other areas of healthcare, there is still little research into how they can be used in oncology. When developing TPPs for cancer, what features must be taken into consideration? Who should be involved? And which areas within a healthcare system should be prioritised for TPP development? And most importantly, how can good, high impact TPPs that maximise the chances of tests being developed, adopted and reaching patients be developed? Our new study, in collaboration with the Office of Health Economics for Cancer Research UK Science and Innovation, examines these issues and provides a practical guide for how to develop effective diagnostic TPPs for cancer, with transferable learning for other clinical areas.
