Rex has taken the crown as Australia's number one domestic airline for reliability and punctuality in 2023 👑✈️   December figures released by the Bureau of Infrastructure and Transport Research Economics reveal the Rex Group achieved 74% On Time Departures, followed by the Qantas Group at 67%, and the Virgin Group trailing at 57%.   Of the Rex’s 5,500 regional and domestic flights scheduled for the month, only 0.6% of flights were cancelled. It seems if you want to get somewhere on time, Virgin Australia (ASX:VAH) is now your #airline of choice. Virgin has overtaken Qantas Group Ltd as Australia's most punctual airline, achieving an 81.4% on-time performance in April, surpassing #Qantas' 78.4%. This marks a significant turnaround for Virgin, which was last in punctuality in December and in the early months of 2024. #Jetstar lagged behind with only 74.9% of its flights arriving within 15 minutes of schedule. Virgin Australia (ASX:VAH)’s chief executive Jayne Hrdlicka attributed the improvement to an intense focus on performance, achieving a return to pre-COVID service levels. “The post-COVID recovery has been challenging for the #aviationindustry, but it is promising to see reliability and on-time performance improve across Australian airlines," Hrdlicka said. Market dominance, hub-centricity, and high point-to-point airfares, are typically key ingredients inviting new competition. Australia has some competition with #Virgin, #Rex and others. For New Zealand, the domestic airline competitive landscape is evident in the chart below. Scheduled seat capacity is at around 85%-86% for the national airline on an annualized basis. #Regional city reliance on a single #airline with a dominant #hub structure, would typically trigger a government's interest for an objective and forward-thinking national aviation #strategy. EAC has this rare combination of industry capability and proven experience.

American Airlines plans to reduce its transatlantic services this winter.   Starting October 27, 2024, the airline will stop operating its third daily roundtrip flight between Los Angeles and London Heathrow and suspend the #Phoenix to #London route until March 28, 2025. The goal of these adjustments is to maintain a balance between supply and demand, particularly in wintertime when there is less travel. The modifications also refer to possible reallocations within the fleet, like the refurbishment of Boeing 777-300ERs. Qantas domestic services have slipped below Jetstar for on-time performance, though remained above Virgin when combined with QantasLink. Individually, Qantas saw an on-time departure rate of just 65.1 per cent in October according to BITRE data, compared to Jetstar at 66.4 per cent and Virgin at 68.9 per cent; however, QF designated services as a whole – which includes QantasLink – had on-time departures of 72.7 per cent. https://ow.ly/bxiu50Qa9EI

Regional Express (Rex) has entered voluntary administration and grounded its Boeing 737 fleet. Rival Virgin Australia has agreed to honour all prepaid tickets for Rex’s direct services between domestic capital cities. The airline’s Saab 340 regional services are unaffected. Rex had launched jet operations three years ago in a bid to take on Australian behemoths Qantas and Virgin Australia on the lucrative golden triangle routes between Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. The airline had hoped to capture over 30% of the domestic market share and expand its fleet of 737s. International Airlines Group (IAG) cargo revenue declined six percent to €566 million for the first half of 2024 compared to €603 million in H12023 on lower rates. “We see continuing strong demand for travel in the attractive core markets in which we operate: North Atlantic, Latin America and intra-Europe," says Luis Gallego, Chief Executive Officer, IAG.
