Hey Bristol Airport, what would you do with an extra 1.2m passengers per annum? At EA Maven we have completed our Regional Air Mobility Index of the number of routes that are potentially viable and there are 35 of them. These passengers would save a staggering 2.2m hours a year which would contribute £23m in increased productivity for the airport and its catchment area. Another £23m would be spread across the destination airports bringing the total economic uplift (in terms of the value of time saved) to £46.8m. The challenge could be that 90% of those travellers use cars to get to those destinations so you may want to consider the impact on your surface access strategy. #DistributedAviation #ElectricAviation #ElectricAircraft #RAM #RegionalAirMobility Andrew Goodenough Rob O'Dare

#CLTairport is gearing up for a busy Fourth of July holiday weekend, with record-breaking passenger numbers expected to surpass 2023 totals. From Tuesday, July 2, through Monday, July 8, the Airport is expecting approximately 191,000 local passengers departing Charlotte, a 15.6% uptick from the same period in 2023. In addition, CLT is forecasting a total passenger traffic of 1.18 million during this period, reflecting a 12% increase compared to last year. Jetstar says it is poised to return to pre-COVID capacity in New Zealand from mid-2024 as it adds almost 150,000 seats to trans-Tasman and NZ domestic routes. The carrier will begin ramping up its NZ services on 31 March, increasing frequency on popular domestic and international routes. It expects to reach 100 per cent of pre-COVID domestic capacity by the middle of next year, with trans-Tasman routes almost 40 per cent higher than 2019 levels. https://bit.ly/3uZvZsc

Like the Mafia, airlines are a business! I'm not suggesting that the airlines are using strong arm tactics, but the airfares are high because: 🛩 Demand is incredibly strong 🛩 supply is weak (capacity still below 80%) 🛩 fuel prices are high 🛩 passengers are prepared to pay the prices 🛩 no earlybird deals being offered 🛩Airlines are unbundling fares and charging extra for early seat selection, exit row seats, checked luggage, lounge access etc How to avoid these high airfares: 💵 don't be loyal to one airline, look at other offerings 💵 be flexible on days and try and fly mid week when demand is lower and avoid departing Friday or Saturday when demand is high 💵 avoid school holidays 💵 avoid peak European summer flights 💵 choose airports where there is lots of airline competition I think airfares are going to be on the high side for a while, so if you see a sale, act immediately... London Gatwick has gained *yet another* carrier: Azerbaijan Airlines. It is, of course, mainly driven by a lack of Heathrow slots at the required times and in the required quantities. Gatwick's lower charges will obviously help too.   Starting on 31st March, the day northern airlines switch to S24 schedules, AZAL will operate three weekly initially using the A320 (given the length of haul, presumably the neo rather than the ceo shown below). It will supplement its three weekly 787-8 services to Heathrow, with the 788 also used to Gatwick from the summer. Ouch at sub-daily to both. It is unclear to what degree AZAL is driven by profitability and commercial considerations.   Depending on the day, its Heathrow service next summer will arrive in London at 20:25/20:35/21:05. Back to the Caucasus, they will go at 21:50/22:05. In contrast, Gatwick will be daytime, arriving at 09:55/10:20 and leaving at 11:20.   UK CAA data (see here: https://lnkd.in/ecybzKSy) shows that it carried 2,866 Heathrow pax in October 2023. According to OAG Traffic data, nearly all were P2P, so the completely different Gatwick times are less of a problem without flights to feed. With 5,460 seats for sale, its Heathrow SLF was just 52% on avg – ouch! (Presumably freight is great there, but still.) It filled an average of just 110 seats on its 210-seat 788s. Read my latest research for the Australian Airports Association on economic competition in Australian domestic airline sector published in the The Australian Financial Review today: https://lnkd.in/gBkB_w2D My key findings are: ✈ With the introduction of a new competitor Rex Airlines on the transcontinental Melbourne-Perth route, airfares see a decrease of 40% ✈ During 'peak' travel days during school holidays, competing airlines increase their airfares to market level to maximize profits. ✈ More competition in the Australian domestic airline sector ultimately benefits passengers as it improves the quality of service for them through more choice and lower airfares.
