Last Friday was truly energizing 🤩 ! The entire Humanity team came together for our inaugural 'Super TWAM' (Together We Are Meeting). While we hold 'TWAMs' every other month—hybrid all-agency meetings to celebrate each other, agency news, and our ongoing work—this one was extra special.   Amidst the warmth of shared hugs, it felt like a family reunion. Though many of us work near our office and visit weekly, we also have humans spread across Ontario, Vancouver, and Montreal. All of us gathering in person is a rare treat for us all.   Here's what our Super TWAM, facilitated by the insightful Karen Stern from Sidekick looked like:   🤓 Business Operations: We kicked things off by delving into how we function as a business.   🤓 Development at Humanity: We discussed our quarterly review process. It’s crucial for every team member to understand their role in our agency's success, while also ensuring their wellbeing and celebrating their achievements.   🤓 Our Vision: As a creative agency, it's easy to get lost in the day-to-day grind, but it’s vital to articulate what sets us apart. We explored Humanity's identity, defining who we are, what we stand for, and our unique essence that makes Humanity, well, Humanity. Our 10-year vision might be ambitious, but we're thrilled to build it alongside our incredible humans with our clearly defined Why, How, and What.   Then, we ate 🍕.   🤓 Values Workshop: When we launched Humanity nearly four years ago, we quickly outlined our values. But over time, we realized they lacked depth. Now, with four years of growth and insights from our team, we revisited and refined our values to reflect what's been built and how we want to move forward. Together, we delved into what each value truly means and what each one looks like in action.   🤓 We concluded with Goal Setting: We outlined Humanity's 2024 business objectives, breaking them down so every team member can contribute to achieving these milestones. In addition, everyone set their personal development goals.   A huge thank you to every human at Humanity for making Super TWAM a truly amazing day. We’re so happy to say that, exactly five years after our last flagship conference took place in-person, You Got This will return. This time in Berlin on January 18 2025, we invite you to a full day of core skills talks and networking. When the pandemic happened, we made a conscious decision to root You Got This in content and education, leaving a discussion space for core skills aside. Given topics can be sensitive, we weren’t absolutely confident in our ability to deliver this space safely. Being in-person means you know that everyone present is there because they want to learn and talk about the topics that don’t get covered at other conferences. And it’s great to be bringing that back because it’s been sorely missing. We welcome 25 minute talks on non-technical topics that are important for people working in tech. We welcome first-time and experienced speakers alike, and offer optional talk planning and feedback sessions. We don’t directly cover costs, but pay speakers €600. Excited to share that I recently had the honor of being a speaker at the CTO Craft Con 2023, CTO Craft distinguished conference bringing together CTOs from tech companies across multiple industries. The event, which took place on November 7th, provided a unique platform for industry leaders to exchange ideas and insights. As part of an esteemed panel of industry experts, we delved into the critical and timely topic of Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) within the technology space. It was heartening to engage in meaningful conversations with fellow CTOs, sharing perspectives, challenges, and successful strategies for promoting diversity and inclusivity in our respective organizations. The discussions touched upon various aspects of D&I, from fostering a culture of belonging to addressing unconscious biases and implementing inclusive hiring practices. The diversity of experiences and perspectives within the panel truly showcased the richness of thought present in the tech industry. Events like CTO Craft Con serve as catalysts for positive change, offering a platform for leaders to collectively tackle challenges and drive innovation in the ever-evolving tech landscape.
