One really has to wonder at what point the leadership team at Red Lobster will simply be dismissed. When you have no competitive advantages and the only thing the well paid team at the top can come up with is something as ridiculous as this? Then? There has always been an easy path to growing market share - just sell it for less than everyone else... there is a market for that type of opportunity. The problem has always been that you MUST be the low-cost provider to pull that off. Red Lobster is not even close to the low-cost provider in this industry or even in their sub-industry. Really time for the effort to start over. What could be the competitive advantages? Can you afford the time and money to get there? Hmm🫡. Yes, brands, companies, face challenges, and relevancy can be among them. I think Ms. Masino has been CEO of Cracker Barrel for coming up on a year. Is it not part of the CEO’s job to keep, make their brand(s), and company relevant? Of course, sometimes relevancy can wane, and acknowledging the truth is critical as is doing what is necessary to get it back on-track. But, might not there be a way to communicate its challenge(s) in a more hopeful, optimistic, forward looking, inspiring, confidence building, motivating way, versus publicly throwing it under the bus and facilitating a stock price/company value decline? Words, how they’re spoken, to whom they’re spoken, where they’re spoken, when they’re spoken, matter, especially if one is in a leadership position like CEO. #crackerbarrel

The role of the category manager is crucial here, ensuring a balance to prevent dead stocks and shrinkage. Category managers often expand the assortment by introducing premium or specialized products. The foundation of their work lies in comprehending how every segment of the customer decision-making process is addressed and estimating the additional sales potential of each SKU. The optimal solution involves collaborative efforts among the category, merchandising, and finance teams working together as a cohesive project group.

McDonald's promotes new Chief Supply Chain Officer 👏 The global fast food chain has promoted Cesar Pina to the role of Senior Vice President and Chief Supply Chain Officer for North America, effective October 1st. Piña, currently serving as Vice President of Global Supply Chain, has been with the company for almost a decade and will now be tasked with improving the resiliency of its supply chain by partnering with suppliers, employees and franchise owners. He will replace Bob Stewart, who recently announced his retirement, following an impressive 30 years with the business. Marion Gross, EVP & Global Chief Supply Chain Officer, commented: "Cesar has made significant contributions across his 10-year McDonald’s career to drive meaningful change to our global supply chain and the System at large, and there is no doubt that he is the right leader to carry forward McDonald’s priorities." PURCHASING CANNED TOMATOES AT HARRIS TEETER: CAN WE HAVE TOO MUCH CHOICE? I was at HT in Chapel Hill, a regional grocer in the southeast of the US. I needed canned tomatoes. There were some 100 SKUs to choose from! Can you believe it? We are talking about a mundane product for most consumers. Many varieties, let alone brands, I had never heard of. What should be a routine decision took me far too long. Academic research in marketing and psychology has shown that there is something as too much choice. Called information overload, it leads to confusion and LOWER sales. Let alone profits lost by the shelf space devoted to slow moving SKUs. Might canned tomatoes be an example? What did the national launch of Rice Krispies Treats™  teach me about HUMAN NATURE? In the ‘90s, I was an Ops Manager in  a sprawling Kellogg cereal distribution center outside Atlanta. Our facility was selected for the inventory build  and LAUNCH of     Rice Krispies Treats™  because  the BAKERY mass-producing these goodies was just up I-75, AND because we had a distribution CAMPUS with TWO-MILLION square feet of empty space ready to warehouse a few HUNDRED TRUCKLOADS of the hot new product. I was a young GREEN Ops Manager  but I certainly understood human nature. INEVITABLY, highly-skilled forklift drivers would somehow manage to  “accidentally” stick their FORKS into a carton (or two)  of EVERY new product, … requiring us to DESTROY the remaining product  since it was FOOD GRADE and now UN-SALEABLE. I was GREEN but I caught on quickly  as EMPTY WRAPPERS mysteriously appeared in a far corner of the DAMAGE CAGE without explanation!    Clearly, an employee had eaten the *accidentally* DAMAGED product  before we could destroy it. It’s natural to be CURIOUS about NEW stuff  SO In REVERENCE to HUMAN NATURE and  in protection of MY PERFORMANCE BONUS which was impacted  by the amount of product damaged INSIDE the warehouse…. ☎️ I called BATTLE CREEK and asked   to purchase two CASES of  Rice Krispies Treats™ squares  PRIOR to the retail launch. 👉 I explained that I planned to NEGOTIATE with  my team of forklift drivers  and PROMISE each one would get a few bars to take home and a pizza party 🍕  … IF    AND     ONLY IF we kept damage to ZERO on every shift.  ✅ Well, the INCENTIVE worked! Just before Rice Krispies Treats™ in snack packs arrived on grocery store shelves,  EVERY forklift driver got to taste them and take some home. This was one of my favorite moments as a young manager AND  One that GARNERED LOYALTY and support of my team – simply by acknowledging and honoring their HUMANNESS.
