In August, we had the pleasure to present the August Good Ticket Award to Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Homicide Detective Buddy Embrey for his exceptional act of compassion in partnership with LVMPD. While on assignment at UMC Pediatrics, Detective Embrey was approached by a nurse needing help identifying a juvenile patient on life support with no family contact. Despite working on another case, Detective Embrey acted immediately. He contacted the Digital Forensics lab, which retrieved contact information from the patient's damaged phone. This led to the coroner contacting the patient’s mother, allowing her to say goodbye before life support was discontinued. Detective Embrey, nominated by a colleague, exemplifies the care and dedication LVMPD strives to bring to our community. We love being able to contribute and be part of an organization that does so much good for our community! 🙏 #RWLV #LasVegas #LVMPD

Mindset coach and speaker helping overwhelmed high achievers transform their lives from running on empty to satisfying and purpose-filled
Thanks to the magic of technology, I was able to listen to ACGME Vice President for Wellbeing Dr. Stuart Slavin give grand rounds at the University of Wisconsin-Madison Department of Pediatrics this morning. This point really resonated with me: We are all co-creators of our culture. Yes, the system is broken. No, we don't have to be miserable while we work to fix it. We can choose to foster more helpful mindsets and behaviors in order to create ripples of change in our own workplaces. #physicianwellness #physicianburnout #physicianleadership #wellbeingatwork #mindsetmatters #mindsetshift #gme

Leadership Coach for Healthcare Professionals | Physician & Professor, University of Michigan | Workplace Dignity Advocate | Creator of the Dignity Lab | Podcaster
This is for all the pediatricians out there, those whom I know and those whom I have yet to meet. You are important and valued and worthy and priceless as are the children you care for. "While a healthy childhood does not guarantee a healthy adulthood, an unhealthy childhood certainly makes a healthy adulthood less likely. If society wants healthy adults for the future of the country, the children of today need a physician workforce to count on. The country needs pediatricians. We ask you to think of that child you love and to advocate for changes that support the sustainability of pediatrics care. We know so deeply that these children’s lives have value. Let us back that with policy." #dignity #dignityofwork #children #policy #leadership

Sharing insights from MedCity News by Hari Prasad, CEO of Yosi Health. In this article, Hari underscores the importance of understanding the evolving landscape of consent in pediatric care amongst teenagers. Pediatricians navigate the complexities of consent with teen patients, respecting autonomy within state regulations and varied parental roles. Protecting adolescent confidentiality builds crucial trust between teen patients and their providers, especially during these formative years. Advanced technologies help pediatricians facilitate secure, direct communication, prioritizing patient privacy and legal compliance. By better supporting pediatricians and ensuring correct consent protocols, along with establishing trustworthy confidential communication channels, we ensure improved care and health outcomes for our teens. #YosiHealth #HealthcarePrivacy #HealthTech #PediatricCare #TeenHealth https://lnkd.in/eM8wwGtC

Proud to have attended the American Academy of Pediatrics Bright Futures Forum in Itasca. Representing National Hispanic Medical Association (NHMA) and advocating for the crucial role of pediatric nutrition in supporting our Hispanic/LatinX children. So uplifting and inspiring to be surrounded with so many colleagues with the same purpose! Bright Futures Key Takeaways: 1. Is a national health promotion and prevention initiative, led by the American Academy of Pediatrics and supported, in part, by the US Department of Health and Human Services, Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), Maternal and Child Health Bureau (MCHB) 2. Can be incorporated into many public health programs such as home visiting, child care, school-based health clinics and many others (Patient Advocates, Community Health Workers, Promotoras) 3. Presents a new focus on the social determinants of health and on lifelong physical and mental health 4. Discussed the unwinding of Medicaid impacting children across US, specifically to Black/Hispanic children - alarming rates in Texas! Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine | Associate Director of Research, Emergency Medicine | Weill Cornell Medicine/NYP | Elder Abuse and Geriatric Emergency Medicine Researcher
I was very pleased to contribute to a just-published manuscript led by Elizabeth Bloemen, MD, MPH describing a new medical specialist: the elder abuse geriatrics clinician. Elder mistreatment, including elder abuse and neglect, is a difficult diagnosis to make and manage for most providers. To address this, two elder abuse consultation teams were developed for patients in the hospital and emergency department settings. As these teams have developed, the providers, including Elizabeth, me, and many of the co-authors, involved have developed a specialized scope of practice that includes forensic evaluation, evaluation of cognition and capacity, care coordination and advocacy for victims of abuse, and collaboration with protective services and law enforcement. #elderabuse #geriatrics The role is depicted in this figure.

🌎 The United States prioritizes #developmental #assessment practices as a national focus. This commitment is supported by federal programs, insurance coverage, and the concrete guidelines set by the American Academy of Pediatrics: ✍ Federal efforts are intensifying to promote universal developmental screening. Programs like #ChildFind and #BirthTo5: #WatchMeThrive! are driving this initiative, aiming to make developmental assessments legally required for all children. 💵 #Reimbursement for developmental assessments up to age 21 is provided by #Medicaid (https://lnkd.in/dtThkzdg) and major private insurers, including Kaiser Permanente (https://lnkd.in/dwT_M9v4) and Blue Cross Blue Shield Association (https://lnkd.in/dvY7g6PG). ⚕ The American Academy of Pediatrics strongly emphasizes the obligation to conduct annual developmental assessments for all children up to age 21 (https://lnkd.in/d-qUScQB) #Innoccu supports these efforts by providing a standardized, objective, and cost-effective developmental assessment tool. Designed for adaptability in #Telehealth settings, Innoccu ensures that assessments can be completed even when in-person visits are not feasible. #Innoccu is bringing new technology to child health, pushing progress and promising a healthier tomorrow for children worldwide. https://lnkd.in/dnQCuK-T https://lnkd.in/d7be7p92 https://lnkd.in/dtThkzdg https://lnkd.in/dPGzZziU

Trauma-free care for sick children Drawing blood, inserting an IV, or looking into the ear; even seemingly simple medical procedures can cause anxiety, pain, and stress in children. According to pediatric intensivist Piet Leroy, comfort and trust are just as important as the medical treatment itself. He is researching how healthcare providers can offer trauma-free care and how they can learn to apply comfort care. "A sick child doesn't understand why an examination or treatment is necessary, and will resist," explains Leroy. "Soon, the situation escalates because healthcare providers want to thoroughly examine and treat the child. However, being restrained just once to look into their ears can be a very unpleasant experience for a child that they will remember."
