At Marsden Jacob, we’re always looking for new ways to help #ShapeTheFutureWisely. And what better way to create a #SustainableEnergy future than to learn with, and from, the next generation of energy experts.   This summer, we’ve been lucky enough to have two passionate energy #interns join us at our Melbourne office.   Maryam Abbasi and Oyundari Davaanyam are both undertaking a Master of Energy Systems at the University of Melbourne. Until the end of February, Maryam and Oyundari will work with our energy team on some of the issues that are central to the Australian energy transition, which in the National Electricity Market include:  🔸 The technologies, locational spread and economics of firming services.   🔸 The changing requirements of essential system services and how these will be provided.  🔸 The long-term role and economics of hydrogen.  The findings of such analysis are being used to support modelling of the Australian energy markets undertaken by Marsden Jacob. The Solar Car Challenge and Dr. Lehman Marks shaped my life and my view of education in Texas. In my opinion, to be a top-notch engineer you have to know how to apply your technical knowledge and inter-personal skills and to need a lot of practice to get there! This Solar Car Challenge gives high school students the chance to do just that. As engineers working in industry, Robert Lopez Velazquez, Javier Brandon Lopez, and myself often reflect on how we built our solar car in 40 days straight from start to finish, working 16+ hour days in each other's garages. We ran car washes, went from door to door asking for donations, came up with creative ways to ask for supplies, and then still had to figure out how to put the car together (with limited equipment) once we finally got everything. All of this while taking care of our family responsibilities. I will especially never forget how when we asked for help from Electrical Engineering professors we were told that there is no way we would understand the concepts well enough to be able to complete the design and fabrication of a functional electric-powered drive train. Well, to those who shall not be named, we did it and we now work for some of the highest-rated engineering companies in the world. I will never tell a young engineer or young professional that they can't do anything. I learned that if we limit ourselves, then we will definitely limit those we perceive to have less resources than ourselves (usually younger engineers or younger professionals). Age is no limitation to what can be accomplished. I look forward to working with the next generation here at #AtlasTechnicalConsultants.

The objective of the project is to predict peak energy demand, manage load balancing and reduce energy waste in the distribution network through the application of machine learning algorithms. Abdoul chose to work with Hydroelectricity to predict its consumption in North America and learn from it. I just wrapped up an enlightening week at Aha Solar, and the experience has been nothing short of transformative. Immersed in the dynamic world of solar consultancy, I delved deep into understanding its intricate layers and discovered the pivotal role it plays in shaping our sustainable future. Throughout my internship, I had the privilege to explore the diverse facets of consultancy, particularly focusing on its three fundamental types: 1. Strategic planning: Strategic planning forms the bedrock of any successful venture. At Aha Solar, I learned how meticulous planning sets the trajectory for effective solar initiatives, aligning objectives with long-term goals and navigating potential challenges with foresight. 2. Implementation : Theory meets action in the implementation phase. Here, I witnessed the meticulous execution of strategic blueprints, seeing how ideas translate into tangible solar projects. It's the phase where innovation meets pragmatism, and every detail counts towards achieving sustainable outcomes. 3. Auditing: No initiative is complete without robust evaluation. Auditing ensures adherence to standards, identifies areas for improvement, and ultimately enhances the efficiency and efficacy of solar projects. It's the critical feedback loop that fuels continuous innovation and optimization. Moreover, my journey at Aha Solar broadened my understanding of stakeholders within the solar ecosystem. From policy makers like Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) and @Ministry of Power sector crafting the regulatory landscape to industry giants like Adani and Torrent driving production, and distributors like UGBCL facilitating the distribution chain, each entity plays a crucial role in advancing solar adoption. At the heart of it all lies the end consumer, whose choices shape the demand and drive the momentum towards sustainable energy solutions. One of the highlights of my internship was delving into the intricate workings of the SPVRT model, a key balance system component that underpins solar energy systems. From understanding its technical intricacies to witnessing its installation firsthand, I gained invaluable insights into the backbone of solar infrastructure, reinforcing my passion for renewable energy advocacy. As I reflect on my week at Aha Solar, I'm grateful to Pulkit Dhingra sir,vipin sharma sir,Ranjan Baheti sir, and Kshitiz Vishnoi sir for the wealth of knowledge and experiences that have enriched my journey. Hoi, I am happy to announce the start of my graduation project at Ventolines, right after an impactful 2-month Internship with Gijs van der Veen as my supervisor. This time, I'm developing a Cable Ampacity Calculation Dashboard, a vital tool for analyzing expansion in renewable energy systems with Benjamin Stobbe as my thesis supervisor. Mohamad Ghaffarian Niasar will be my university supervisor. His expertise in high-voltage cables will be very useful in guiding this project towards success. For my graduation project, I will program a dynamic cable ampacity calculation tool to manage increased loads from renewable sources like solar, wind, and batteries. Conventionally, cable capacity is calculated based on steady-state conditions (handy for steady producers like power plants but not so for renewables), leading to the underutilization of their full capacity. The tool will optimize this by precisely determining the additional renewable energy load an existing cable can sustain before hitting its thermal threshold. The tool could also explore options for more efficient cables, potentially reducing precious material usage. Additionally, the dashboard will compare theoretical calculations with real monitored cable data to validate feasibility and learn from real-world examples. Thrilled to share that the report "Leaving Money on the Table: Utilities Failing to Leverage the Inflation Reduction Act" has just been published, and I'm honored to have played a significant role in it! 👩🏻💻 I compiled the comprehensive data in the "Levels of IRA Integration by Utilities Included in the Analysis" portion of the report. 📈 🔍 This report brought to light some eye-opening insights: 1️⃣ "Only 10% of Utilities in the study effectively modeled the tax credit bonuses outlined in the Inflation Reduction Act". 2️⃣ "Astonishingly, zero utilities adequately considered all of the far-reaching implications of the IRA".
