Do you know your flood risk? It pays to check for flood risks before you buy or build, which is exactly what you can do on the Auckland Council’s website.  The council defines flood hazards as land that will be covered during heavy rainfall. In some instances the flood water will pool in low points. In others, the water will be fast moving down a slope. NVCA has upgraded our Flood Outlook statement to Flood Watch. Exercise extreme caution around all rivers and streams. Hazardous conditions may exist around all waterbodies, as there is a high risk of life-threatening injury if a person falls into the fast-flowing water. Please avoid driving through flooded roadways. The NVCA watershed has received 62-107mm of rain in the past 48 hours. Water levels in rivers and streams are currently elevated as a result the rainfall earlier this week. Any additional rainfall on currently saturated ground will further increase water levels in area streams. Water may overflow banks and cause flooding in some areas.
