Heart failure costs European health systems over €280 billion a year – and that number is predicted to increase in the next decade. Heart failure can have a significant impact on people’s lives, affecting their ability to work, travel and socialise. As the leading cause of preventable hospitalisations in Europe, the condition must be tackled to ensure better health outcomes and secure the long-term economic stability of the EU. This will require coordinated policy action and investment from policymakers to support regional and national efforts to deliver best-practice heart failure care. https://lnkd.in/eKnYzT49

We are thrilled to share that we have contributed to a call to action to the German Ministry of Health, urging the government to take immediate action to enhance care for the nearly 4 million people living with heart failure in Germany. The letter is a result of this year’s national heart failure roundtable, initiated by Herzschwaeche Deutschland, and has been signed by leading patient representatives, cardiologists and nurse experts. It proposes critical actions, including: Ø ensuring that heart failure is fully incorporated into the upcoming German national cardiovascular strategy. Ø improving diagnosis through targeted training, routine use of risk questionnaires in primary care, and the inclusion of NP testing in national health checks. Ø urgently investing in heart failure specialist nurses and allied professions to bridge gaps in care due to shortages of trained staff. Ø accelerating roll-out of the disease management programme for heart failure, which has suffered from significant delays, jeopardising quality HF care. These actions are pivotal for the German health system to provide optimal care and respond to the rising prevalence of heart failure. On 16th October we took part in a breakfast discussion on "Europe's Escalating RMD Crisis: How to Protect EU's Healthcare System, Workforce and Economy'', organised by the European Parliament's interest group on Rheumatic and Musculoskeletal Diseases (RMDs). Interstitial lung disease (ILD) often occurs alongside RMDs and can sometimes get worse before it is spotted. This can lead to delays in treatment and long-term damage to the lungs that cannot always be undone. This discussion was a chance to bring together Members of the European Parliament (MEPs), scientists, healthcare professionals and people with lived experience of these conditions to find possible policy actions to tackle the impact that RMDs are having on Europe's healthcare systems and economy. We are grateful to the Secretariat of RMD intergroup for inviting us to the discussion and hope that the members of the EU's Subcommittee on Public Health (SANT) will continue to work on effective patient-centred policies in the European Parliament.

The launch of the Global Sepsis Agenda is really setting new standards. Furthermore, at the event of this launch, the story of lived experience as told by Mariah Mc Kimbrough, and the plea by professionals like prof. Djillali Annane touched on the core elements of what we need to let sepsis really become a priority: 1)Health Policy should be driven by listening to patients 2)It's shocking that most of the sepsis patients and their relatives, gathered at the #sepsisstrongertogether event on the 9th of Paris, had never heard about sepsis before they got ill. This is really a problem in many countries; there's a dramatically poor level of education of the public and professionals even though sepsis is such a fatal disease 3)There's no plan in Europe for surveillance regarding sepsis. This needs to change for Europe to play an important role to tackle sepsis 4)There's no wide spread educational curriculum in medical school regarding sepsis. This has to change 5)The European Union should also enhance sepsis awareness in low and middle income countries 6)The word 'sepsis' is not mentioned once in the document of 'Horizon Europe'... 7)Tackling sepsis is cost-effective. It's not just saving lives, it's saving lives in good health Listen to prof.
