The use of carbon dioxide gas to kill pigs is certainly @pignorant The slaughter houses do this because it’s cost effective. I think for those that have children what strikes me most is pigs are MORE intelligent than 3 year old children. They can solve complex puzzles and are emotionally sentient. The time has come to stop trusting unregulated industries that exploit every Penny they can make and care nothing for their customers. RSPCA have said it’s cruel and promotes animal torture and suffering but still endorse the products as they get a % of profits and the farmers who make profit from animals sit on the RSPCA board. It’s a self regulated corrupt industry and the charity is not interested in farm animals. Cats and dogs are treated differently to pigs and cows. Animal welfare standards in this country are non existent. Enough is enough and if anyone can still eat pig after watching this I would be astonished. Hey I’m watching Pignorant. ANIMAL ADVOCACY UPDATE: This week, Kentucky’s Governor Beshear vetoed the state's ag-gag bill (SB 16)! This bill would criminalize the recording and sharing of what goes on at factory farms with the public. Farm Sanctuary sent an action alert asking Governor Beshear to veto the legislation in March. We strongly believe whistleblowers must be able to investigate and expose animal agriculture’s abuse and cruelty to protect not only farm animals but also workers and public health. Those who bravely speak out and shed light on injustice should not fear repercussions. Though this win could be short-lived — the legislature could override the governor’s veto with their veto — we still celebrate steps being made to promote transparency and protect billions of farm animals. I know LinkedIn is a platform for professional updates, and this strays from my usual posts, but I cannot remain silent on this matter…as a dog mom, my heart really hurts. I have been a vocal advocate for animal welfare rights in Ontario for some time now, frequently engaging with various levels of government to emphasize the urgent need for new policies to protect our vulnerable and beloved animals. The recent horrific events at Kippen Cares (owner Jessica Kippen) where numerous animals suffered severe abuse and many were tragically killed and put into a freezer (yes you read this right) highlight the pressing need for immediate action. Premier Doug Ford and Minister Michael S. Kerzner we need decisive measures to ensure justice for the innocent animal lives lost and to prevent such atrocities in the future. Our animal welfare laws must be strengthened, and enforcement must be rigorous to safeguard our beloved pets. PAWS is not enough. We need to meaningfully punish those who feel safe abusing animals - it’s time our animals are not only seen as property in the eyes of the law. I urge you to investigate, act swiftly and firmly against those responsible for these heinous acts and implement strong protections for all animals in Ontario. The time for radical change is now, before the people take this into their own hands. As we venture into the new year, there are key animal welfare issues in Canada that demand your attention and support. One of those issues is protecting animals in captivity. Recently, the Government of Canada introduced Bill S-15, a groundbreaking legislation that phases out the captivity of elephants and great apes in Canada. If passed, this bill will put an end to the suffering of these animals and criminalize the use of elephants and great apes for entertainment purposes such as rides, tricks on demand and circus-like shows. Humane Canada is working to strengthen this bill and lobbying government to add big cats, such as lions and tigers, to this legislation, who often suffer in private ownership and roadside zoos across the country. We’re working under a real deadline here. What does that mean? 2024 is a pivotal election year, and we need bills like this one to pass before it arrives, or our progress will be lost. Target: Charlie Smithson, Secretary of the IA Senate Goal: Advocate for stronger laws to help prevent both domestic violence and animal cruelty. Animal abuse has long been correlated with other types of violent crime, including murder. Sadly, a crime that too often ends in tragedy shares one of the strongest links with cruelty to animals: domestic violence. Iowa animal welfare advocates have taken note, and now they are taking action. A proposed new law would require cross-reporting between cases of animal cruelty and cases of domestic violence. As it stands now, individuals who frequently come into contact with incidents of violence against animals or people (such as animal control officers and social workers) rarely collaborate or share information. As a result, law enforcement often loses important information that can establish patterns and build a case. The Animal Rescue Leage of Iowa is working to help forge better connections and to tighten legal processes that would automatically trigger reviews for one type of violence if another type of violence is suspected. Minnesota is about to plunge into very cold temperatures. Bitterly cold. The surrounding states, too! If you have a dog or cat, please, don't let your cat outside, at all. Even when the weather warms up. Their sole mission in life, once they are outside, is to kill native wildlife just for sporting fun. Cats are in an invasive species once they step outside your door. When you take your dog outside, limit their time outside because frostbite can happen to dogs, just like it can to humans. Their paws and ears, and their nose. They are no longer wolves, perfectly adapted to winter conditions. They are domesticated animals that rely completely on their human partner for protection from the elements. If you see someone who is keeping their dog outside on a chain, without a properly designed dog house that protects the dog from the cold, you should call law enforcement. Most rural cities and townships have at least a minimum standard of care for dogs. Woeful as it may be since so many people still view animals as objects, as commodities, to be used and discarded on a whim. If your community does not have really good animal welfare laws, then you just found your mission for 2024--to campaign for better animal treatment, whether that's in Minnesota, or any state in the Union.

Last summer, SPCA received 532 complaints about dogs being left inside hot cars. This equates to 10% of ALL of our animal welfare complaints received during that period. That means 10% of our Inspector resource last summer was spent responding to these calls – calls about beloved pets whose owners simply don’t know the danger they’re putting them in. This time could and should be spent instead on animals who are not beloved pets and desperately need our help. We don’t have the words to express the frustration of having to share the same message every year, and seeing it just not landing with dog owners. So we’re asking for your help. As a hot, dry El Niño summer approaches, we’re urging dog owners to take the risks seriously. PLEASE help us share this message: leaving your dog in a hot car – even with the window cracked – can be deadly. Leaving your pets outside in freezing temperatures can lead to dangerous health conditions, such as hypothermia or frostbite. That's why it's important to bring your pets inside during cold weather. It's worth noting that leaving your pets outside in freezing temperatures is actually illegal in Houston. If you're caught doing so, you could face legal consequences. So, do the right thing and bring your pets inside during this freeze. If you're in need of a kennel or other type of housing for your pets, don't hesitate to reach out for support.
