Time and again, we encounter initiatives aimed at supporting Black women that, unfortunately, lack their direct input. Data and projects about Black women are too often led by those outside of their community. While allies are valued, it's imperative that Black women take the lead in shaping the narratives and solutions that affect their lives. Authentic representation is not just beneficial; it's essential for truly addressing the unique challenges Black women face. #AuthenticRepresentation #InclusiveInitiatives #BlackWomenLead

The year is 2024 and you, as a non- BIPOC individual, wish to put together a full panel of BIPOC women to bring value to your audience. Having that intention with bringing diversity to the table isn't enough. Sit down, learn how to pronounce your panelists' non-American names, and do it accurately and repeatedly. Asking your panelists to pronounce their names while you admit not being to, is not appropriate. Mispronouncing your panelists' names to a point where they have trouble understanding if you're asking them a question? Also not acceptable. Without this sort of effort, this guise of diversity feels rather performative, doesn't it?

#ListenActChange is the theme of this year's Race Equality Week. 🔣 The theme, selected by the Race Equality Matters community, reflects ongoing findings and feedback about barriers to race in the workplace. Time for real numbers talk📏 : Only 25 % of the REM community believes their organisation focuses on action, change, and impact, and not just words. 63% believe that less than a quarter of allies are actually helping to tackle race inequality. 44% said their senior leaders and managers are committed to tackling race inequality, but only 21% said their senior leaders and managers are making an impact in tackling race inequality. Here at WHEN we'd like to share some more figures, in the form of our latest 100 Black Women Professors NOW programme Impact Report. At January's Annual Summit we proudly celebrated that 66 Black Women professors are currently in post in the UK. But this number is still less than 1% representation nationally. Eyes are on you academic institutions - let's do this work together. Get in touch to partner with us! You can read our full #100BWPN Impact Report here:
