Our legacy dates back to 1906, well over 100 years later and after countless technical innovations, our precision ADS engine line remains in full rate production at our historic Muskegon, MI facility. Our history begins at the turn of the century as the Continental Motors brand manufacturing engines for a wide variety of applications. In 1932, after a proven track record and engine design, Continental was selected by the US Army to develop and manufacture the C series radial gas engine for the now iconic M4 Sherman tank. These radial engines powered the Sherman tanks over the beach. Sense of Normandy and the deserts of North Africa in World War Two. This era marked the beginning of our proud history, building one of the world's most reliable and prolific military tank engines. In 1959, after the success of the C series radial engines, the US Army transitioned from gas to diesel fuel for their combat vehicles. Enter the ADS 1790 diesel engine. This 750 horsepower 12 cylinder powerhouse was integrated into the US Army's then brand new M60 main battle tank and still remains in service in over 20 countries worldwide, providing a true testament to the longevity, durability and reliability of the ADS engine. The development of these heavy tanks necessitated the creation of a heavy recovery vehicle. In 1961, the US military once again selected. Our ADS engine for the M88 leading to the eventual development of the M88A1 and A2 models. Each iteration of the M88 saw upgrades to the AVDS engine and eventually increase the engines rating to 1050 horsepower. Beyond the US, the ADS 1790 engine has been selected by Israel, Turkey, South Africa, Jordan and Taiwan for their indigenous main battle tanks, armored personnel carriers and self-propelled howitzer platforms. Our combat proven engine is celebrated for its engineering excellence, consistently outperforming competitors in its class. It's unique air cool design is the most efficient cooling means possible and is especially effective in extreme temperature conditions. It eliminates the need for water, ethylene glycol radiators and associated coolant pumps and lines, thus reducing breakdowns and field maintenance. Engine and transmission coolers are tightly packaged near the engines cooling fans, providing a highly integrated Power Pack solution. Through ongoing research and development, the AVIDS is simplified. Robust mechanical design minimizes reliance on electronics, making it reliable and. Stream conditions, it's modular construction also allows for easy maintenance and repair, ensuring operational availability with continuous improvement, durability and reliability upgrades. The AVDS 1790 is designed to offer many years of service at lowlife cycle cost. I worked in the engineering department for over 20 years. We had engines come back from the field where a connecting rod blew through the side of the crankcase leaving a hole larger than a softball.
The reports we received, stated these engines continued to run getting the soldiers safely out of harms way.
It's always amazed me what damage these engines would take and continue to run.
